Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

XOM Rats are coming out of their holes now

Not a single colleague of mine reached out to me after getting laid off with others in 2020. Basically, they just disappered. Since then I have joined another large organization and been working there for a while now. Now, all of a sudden a bunch of my XOM colleagues who still work there are reaching out on LinkedIn out asking how am i doing and how things are with me? They didn't care then, why do they care about my welfare now. Anyone else left XOM voluntarily or involuntarily experiencing this as well?

Full of rats for sure. Quite efficient in recruiting/converting and retaining rats.

Why say “company”?
XOM colleagues are special. They are the worst ever. Don’t water down the special toxic culture among employees at XOM by equating them to other company employees.

All I would say is don't ever invest in the company or your colleagues emotionally. Treat your relationship with your company and your work colleagues (except 1 or 2 folks that may become true friends) as a purely a business and nothing more. If you do make emotional investments in either of these two you will only get disappointments and may also possibly go bankrupt emotionally. If you take this approach you would be less likely to be disappointed when the adversity strikes and your company and colleagues sacrifice or bail on you.

One of the good way to test these rats for their genuinity is by simply asking then to write you a LinkedIn recommendation or ask them to do something for you that would require very minimal to medium effort and then see how they react to it initially and what they do (or not). Simple but effective test to know who you should keep up with and who you should a avoid.

There is this specific EMIT IT executive that's been actively promoting EMIT and XOM agendas to lure people in to join XOM. To this dude! People know your and your masters lies and they are not falling for it. You can continue to hire at BTC. Even Indians don't want to join XOM at BTC.

OP, just like XOM and remaining employees adopted non-engagement policy under which they ignored you and rest of those let go. It's time that now you return the favor and apply their policy on them.

Put the bait back into the XOM ho-e, lure these rats back in, and seal up the ho-e. The outside world no longer respects XOM experience as once it used to.

ExxonMobil colleagues are not your friend and some of the worst rats ever. They dropped you out to continue licking ExxonMobil boots. They are all so fearful of the ExxonMobil org that they thought staying connected with people who were let go is a crime.

Do not interpret your bad ex Exxon Colleagues’ behavior as anything other than bad behavior. No excuses. Ensure everything you can do to truthfully bad mouth them when they apply for jobs outside. Just look at the cringeworthy LinkedIn posts and likes by Exxon workers and management.

Lesson Learned - Company friends are not real friends. Just colleagues forming relationships to help themselves

My favorite recent one was the mid-et that took a pic with his family at an angle to make himself look tall, lol.

@bke+1ft1PLO2 not directed at you, but the only word I can think of to describe your theory in defense of these rats is Bu-----t!

@OP It's been a rat race at EM since 1999/2000. Of course, rat behavior dominates. Now, you're out. Want to be back in albeit different environment? In your case, cut the cord. LOL

Checkout some of the LinkedIn posts by some of these rats that are painting pretty picture of XOM. Some of the managment koolaid drinkers are even going to length in their posts sharing philosophy about how to take a day at a time to enjoy life each day rather than regret in later life about not enjoying it fully. I call it bu-----t! I mean since when do these managers started caring about people and their life and wellbeing. True colors of XOM mgmt. breeds have been coming in open light since a year or so now. Now they can't hide behind their lies and neither lies can be hidden. Worker bees have been watching these lies by tone deaf mgmt. for 2 years now and they don't trust a sh-t mgmt. throws at them.

It could be that your friends now realize that they might be unemployed by 2023 based on press releases by Reuters on our actual 2021 headcount and future "speculative forecasts" by some of our colleagues on this forum.

Year Regular Employees
2019 74,900 (actual)
2020 72,000 (actual)
2021 63,000 (actual)
2022 55,000 (estimate)
2023 50,000 (estimate)

Could be they have lost track because of the sheer number of colleagues that got laid off AND they've been crushed by workload since layoffs AND the pandemic AND maybe they've finally decided they can start reaching out again after what they feel was an appropriate amount of time for healing.
