Did the OP take the job?

It is a "job", not a career.

Only if you can handle petty coworkers coupled with nauseating wokeism flowing down from on high. GAC is a paycheck. Beyond that it'll break your heart if you expect anything but matrix flavored corporatism.

The below is the truest of the posts I have read on this page. Also having been at GAC nearly 20 years, I've seen the good, the bad, and now the ugly. Its too bad really that egos at the top prevent the course correction that could salvage a once proud brand. They DO know better (or at least some of them do)! In a world now seemingly dominated by individuals on massive power trips, the real question is, is GAC now just a reflection of big corporate America (i.e. GD), or are a few incompetent individuals single-handedly screwing this company up beyond recognition? I guess time will tell but there is ZERO indication anyone in a position of power has even recognized the error of their ways let alone is willing to stick their neck out and cause a change for the positive. I'd look elsewhere.

Here's the thing. You're on a layoff page. There are some people here who are salty about being laid off. I worked for Gulfstream for the better part of 2 decades and went through 4 maybe 5 layoffs. At no point was I ever even remotely concerned about my job during a layoff. There are a TON of worthless people at GAC and you wonder how they weren't laid off after it's over and why more people were not laid off. Yes, the older employees are the most expensive but they're also the ones who have retired on the job so they are a natural fit for a layoff, but GAC has been sued so they spread the misery around. There were some head scratchers with the May 2020 RIF. But, for the most part there's no shockers during a RIF. However, I wound NEVER recommend anyone work for this company unless you are a born and bred Savannah guy/girl and getting on at GAC is your life's dream. The management is the worst I've ever seen, by far, and I've seen horrible management. Nepotism runs deep. If your uncle has been a manager at GAC for 20 years. You're what they're looking for. If you're an outsider looking to make a splash at company that values quality because GAC is the ultimate luxury item....keep moving.

There are really no redeeming qualities about living in Savannah. The schools suck. The crime sucks. You're paying for private school tuition even if it means sacrificing everything else, the schools are that bad. It's good for a drunken night or two downtown in the "Old South" but you'll be living in a carbon copy of every other interstate exit in America should you move there. I'd pass. By far my biggest regret in life was staying stagnant at GAC because it was easy.

Probably not unless your family is starving and you have no other options. After a decade working there, I know of not a single person that is happy that they ever worked or are currently working there except for the worthless management types. Which is most of them.

If you take it, you will be laid off without warning when the next program winds down, or when you are >age 50, which ever comes first. You will work your buttt off 65 hours a week, even during a fricking pandemic and get dumped like a criminal. Raises are non existent. So make sure you like your salary, because that’s about all you’ll ever make. Don’t move a family to Savannah, because when you do get laid off, there is no other work for you here. You will have to move. Schools are awful here too. You will need to figure in the cost of private school. Gulfstream does not value its employees. You will be a temporary useful tool until you are not.
