Thread regarding Refinitiv layoffs

Going to direct competitor

I am so happy about getting an offer. The manager really was a nightmare. However, now that I have received an offer, I am worried because it is a direct competitor.
I guess there shouldn't be any complications resulting from that? I hope not.

Well done!
The market is paying better than Refinitiv anyway - and companies' cultures are definitely not as toxic

I think this can apply to any company in the corporate world:

  1. Definitely don't tell anyone where you're going until you are well embedded there for a few months, passed probation period etc. people talk and you don't want to sabotage yourself with the new company or the current one
  1. Regarding exit interviews I would try to avoid it and definitely don't give honest feedback - If nobody listened to your feedback while you were here, why would anyone listen now when you are leaving?

Also the company has very well paid consultants to drive their strategy and compensation, why should you give advice for free?
There is nothing for you to gain and there is something to lose, so why do it?

  1. If you have to do an exit interview, keep it short and positive - don't burn future bridges, fake/lie if you have to or speak in general platitudes and then move on to your next career

Keep details to yourself leading up to your last day but I would ask that you provide as much info as you are comfortable with on your way out. As a middle manager I can say the information from people leaving for greener pastures is extremely valuable for us to feed upstream to those suffering from delusions that we pay competitively

I'm not sure what Refinitiv's policy is but a lot of companies will put you on gardening leave if you're joining a direct competitor. Might be nice to have some time off before you start your next job

Worried about workplace drama? Banish concerns with this one weird trick that professional people don’t want you to know about! Hand in your notice. Don’t tell anyone where you will be working next - you don’t have to and there’s no way they can find out until you have gone. Finish your work. Start the next job as agreed.
