Lots on here related to salaried union during the 54% AICP debacle discussion. But the outcome proves that banding together without a union works too. The backlash and outcry were far and wide. You could argue that the reaction to the 54% AICP announcement was an informal collective bargaining action. Salaried GSR and LL6 combined together to make for a formidable bloc that upper management could not ignore. The best part is that it was accomplished without union dues!!
And when the 135% to 54% disparity hit the media, it was game over. Kumar, Jim and Bill could not just sit idly by and let it go because the PR hit was going to be untenable. Coupled with GM's 200% of target bonus, hiring 8k workers and Amazon's timely announcement about doubling of maximum software position salary limit meant Ford's hands were tied.
That LL5-LL2 still get 135% is a stick in the craw. But they were looking at similar backlash from that group if the 135% for them had been pulled back.
