Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Sign of a poor management

AT&T uses layoffs (and the threat of layoffs) as a Force Management tool. They always have. And they will continue to do so. Unlike a lot of other companies who can manage their employment needs through natural attrition (job movements, resignations, retirements, deaths), AT&T uses targeted layoffs to do so.

Its a sign of pi-s-poor C-level management to use this outmoded method.

Signed- a 20+ year employee.

Well said, @ztp+1fh273nT.

The layoffs were next to nothing in 2021. 2022 looks like a repeat.

@1ghi+1fk0uTXa - I just come back to help people and hopefully keep people who are thinking of working at the cesspool to run run run away.

and yes it is true I do have another job and in fact when i left the cesspool on my own I got 3 offers the first three resumes I sent out. It was the best decision I made in my life and wish I made it sooner. I keep my own skills up on my own and did not participate in any of the stupid courses att supplied I kept up on real industry technology not att technology. you are typical att material.

I feel like I owe it to att to keep coming back to this board because they treated me so well.

“Unlike a lot of other companies” (most in-fact), AT&T is faced with the tremendous challenges a contracted labor workforce brings to the table. The union labor agreements and contract language make it very (almost unrealistically) difficult to maintain balance. Targeted layoffs is usually the most robust approach and is always the path of least resistance from the company’s perspective. You probably won’t see this change until every last union worker is off the payroll.

Most companies the size of T or even 50k employees or more often hire personnel as favors to board members or higher ups in the company. I know this because I was one time placed in a company and the job was made up while I was in college just for summer money. It was a favor to a company trustee of their pension fund. T will always be doing this along with nepotism being a big part of its culture. The union is not the problem, it’s the company as a whole and that starts with management at the very top all the way on down. Been with T for 4 decades and have seen a lot of ugliness and mostly in the ranks of management, not union personnel!

TO jos+1fk0uTXa: You must miss AT&T if you keep coming back to this board to check on the company and employees. That is, if you really did find another job which sounds doubtful or you don't have much of a life

this is so true been to two companies since I left att and haven't heard the word layoffs.

got promoted at one company and then left that company for my current company. couldn't be happier have plenty of work and management is awesome and always making sure I am happy. lots of places to move in my company and making more money than I would at att.

att thinks they are good company in their own mind. nothing good about att wish I left a lot sooner.

anybody thinking of working there just run away. att has no clue.

Let me put it another way. There are NO signs of good management at Toxic-T.

I dare anyone to point to ONE good C-Suite executive and what ONE good management decision they have made!

They are all there to drain T's coffers and fill up their bank account as much as possible. And the Ratty was the best and the Stink is running second in that race.
