Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Internal Hiring

Is it just me or has the internal hiring process gotten worse? Myself and two others have applied and interviewed for other positions within the company and are going on month two post interview with no update. There has also been situations in which you apply for an internal posting and don’t hear anything back for weeks as to whether or not they are looking to move forward. You’re lucky if you get an email a month later stating they are not. Not a good look if the company is looking to retain employees.

"The hard fact is that TA has been told that half of all candidates presented to the HM have to be diverse, it doesn't matter how many diverse candidates apply at all compared to non-diverse candidates. This policy puts all non-diverse candidates at a distinct disadvantage."

According to the 2020 census, the American population is 70% "diverse" by definition. (40% non-white and the remaining 60 percent white are half women). So your incessant whining about Allstate's hiring and promoting in accordance to demographic representation in the USA sounds very self serving and borderline sexist / racist as it seems you want white males to be promoted disproportionately for no reason other than your self perpetuated myth that white males are more "qualified".

Grow up and realize its not 1960 anymore.

Well said, @4fnd. You gave us the two most accurate words about staff counsel - "very strange".

In staff counsel, at least out west, we can no longer promote an administrative assistant who has a 4 year degree to a paralegal position. The company now requires at least 1 year paralegal experience to become a paralegal (regardless is whether they have a paralegal certificate). That makes no sense. Allstate pays for higher education but then throws that investment away when they cannot move a good Administrative Assistant up to a Paralegal level… So now, if you are an administrative assistant you have no where to go. Unless they want to go to law school.. very strange.

The racist and prejudiced red hatters still come out in force on the Allstate threads I see. Blind hate for those different than you will always be childish. Being "woke", which means systematically providing equal access to opportunity to all people, is attacked by those that fear giving up centuries of privilege.

Are you a diverse candidate? If not then why are you even applying.

This is just a rumor I heard...but I do think it could be true..supposedly if you are in personal claims (like I am in a ldu adjuster in personal auto claims) they are trying to prevent you from going into other departments because of how short staffed those departments are (so in other words if say I wanted to move into unrepped or repped in personal that would be okay but I recently applied to SIU and a commercial adjuster role and was rejected). It wouldn't surprise if that was correct because my manager even told me that I shouldn't apply for role in another department saying I should master my current role I just got promoted up a level? How much more mastering do I need?

@1rtv, staff counsel jobs are not being filled because so few attorneys are willing to work for Allstate. And that's not because of HR, it's because of staff counsel leadership. While HR may be screwing things up, if no qualified candidates are applying, then the positions cannot be filled. Isn't the GC serving as the interim head of HR? Would seem that HR would give Legal extra attention. Maybe the issue is not with HR; maybe it's with staff counsel leadership.

I heard today that the first interviews for current employees applying for different jobs within Allstate are being conducted a human resources reps based in India.

To be fair, I think most companies are like that. To get huge raises you usually have to switch companies and can negotiate a huge increase. Companies don't like giving their employees good raises smh

This is what happens when you slash half your HR/hiring department. Allstate has never been quick about this, but it's insane now. I'm in Legal, and in Staff Counsel it usually takes months to hire someone and get them in the door. I cannot tell you how many times HR has screwed up the job postings, messed up paperwork/processing, etc. which only adds to the delays. What's ironic is that they've supposedly streamlined the hiring process by doing phone/online interviews (you don't even talk to a person, you leave recorded answers to preselected questions), but it's only gotten worse. And then when people start, there's a 50/50 chance of whether they'll even have a computer on their first day. It's embarrassing and shameful. And it's been this way for so long, the only conclusion is that leadership either doesn't know about these issues or doesn't care, and I'm not sure which is worse.

They are looking for a protected minority affirmative action class to apply. Allstate has gone woke and it shows. What happened to hiring the best person for the job?

Corporations all want shiney new employees anymore. As an internal hire what you bring to the table in the terms of known achievements and experience pales in comparison to the fictional wonderfulness that a shiny new hire right out of college will bring.
