Thread regarding Refinitiv layoffs

Just play the ball with Leadership. So refreshing.

So I'm in this company for a long time 15 years+. I'm a mid-level manager. I cared a lot for the product, service, customer experience over the years. An I felt I got support from leadership team.
Until Blackstone came. It got worse. But I thought, it's interim, let's wait for the new owner. Then I had high hopes with LSEG. Of how foolish I was!
I work in Tech I&C under NS. Never been worse. All the decisions made in I&C are just silly. Accountants running tech org now, not engineers. NS is unfit for the role.
Laying off experienced folks, replacing them with grads, that don't stay with the company for longer than 2 years. Outsourcing everyhing to TCS. Major incidents left right and centre. Major projects delivered (or not :) ) by grads in appaling state.
Now my team have to fit "performance curve". So I had to give folks that clearly overperform compared to the wider org a "performing" grade. That made at least half of the team deeply demotivated. The fact of only 2% merit increase made things even worse.
At least 30% of people are activel looking for new jobs. All off this while we're working remotely. People are training themselelves during office hours, instead of working. I don't blame them.
Another 30% just stopped giving a f*ck, and work at 20% performace. When questioned about it, one told me "Honeslty, I'm just waiting to be made reundant"
So stats, performace and delivery times dropped really bad. Especially since January.

I fed this up the chain, but was told they can't do anything, there's no funding. I have to manage my teams.
So I decided I don't give a damn too. I'm just playing ball with Leadership now. Check emails in the morning. Reply to a few. Miss a couple. Go to the gym. Pick up kids from school. I honestly work like 2 hours a day now. Feels so good :)

When asked about my team performace and delays in deliveries this week, I just replied with the usual corporare BS Leadership gives me: " That's a very good questions. My teams and I are absoltely focused od delivering the best possible outcome. Please be ensured that we work relentlessly to improve the performace, and remove obstacles." All that jazz.
I'm sure I'm going to get fired. Hopefully this year. At least I'll have a free ride for 12 months, and time to focus on my personal development.
I have not been happier in this company for years.

Well, I guess you guys deserve an update. So here it is:
I still do the bare minimum. 2 hours of work a day maximum.
Got overperforming rating, most likely because my manager can tell, I don't give a f**k anymore and can jus quit anyday. But he needed me, my team, and the expertise. So gave me a good rating, so I stay with the company.
The funny thing is that my boss was laid off. He's still with the company, but not for long. I've been offered his positon, with some extra responsibilites.
I refused, told them not interested. They negotiated, but I just said flat NO.
What's the point, getting up the food chain, to get a small salary boost, while I can just sit here barely doing anything :)
I love it here. Doing proffesional trainings in my office hours, then going for a run. Picked my hobbies back, spending time with my family. All during businness hours, and with the salary. I'm so ready for the job market, but I'm not rushing it.
It's LSEG problem now, not mine. They screwed the system up, I have no intention to fix it.

Ditto to all of the above, especially the lead comments re: NS. The fact that ‘under paying for performance’ had been the norm for many years at Refin/TR so now it’s now LSEG’s turn? The latest kick to the groin really is the 2% ACP in the US, when inflation is 8%, in a job market where talent is running for the doors. Going to keep playing the same old game, conform, and stare out the window in between conference calls.

Ditto to all of the above, especially the lead comments re: NS. Add to all this the fact that ‘under paying for performance’ had been the norm for many years at Refin/TR so now it’s now LSEG’s turn. The latest kick to the groin is the 2.5% ACP in the US, when inflation is 8%, in a job market where talent is running for the doors. Going to keep playing the same old game, conform, and stare out the window in between conference calls.

If you schedule meetings and appointments in your outlook, Teams will sync with it and show you as "busy". I use this to block off time when I don't want people to bug me or to have it not show as being idle/away

Re the question in noody cares about me being 'away' on Teams.
I'm never "Away". Got my mobile with me. I'm responsive.
But I'm just reactive. I reply if asked, that's it.
I stopped being proactive. I see a problem, I look the other way. I drag things on. What used to take 1 hour, takes 2 days. If something is outside of my responsibilites, I don't care. Bare minimum is all I give now.
Bare minimum, so a disciplinary action cannot be taken on me.
Have you ever been on the calls awith 20-40 people on it, and only 5 talking? I'm now a silent majority. Just listening in. All while taking a walk in the park, or in my conservatory sipping coffee.
I kid you not. I even picked up painting again. Something I have not done since 10 years. I paint while being on those lame pointless calls. Imagine that. Imagine how pointless those calls are.

This is so true. I am seeing the same, although we are a bit behind you on this mostly because our teams still have a good set of core people still with the company, but that won't last.
As soon as 1-2 of them leave, the rest will too in short order, as only the loyalty to each other is keeping them here now, they know that the company does not give a cr*p.
I expect that we will be in the exact same situation as you by about mid-year.

Thanks for sharing. I’ll risk turning this thread into a self-help group and share that I’ve had lots of conversations with colleagues over the past couple of years that can be summarized as: no-one else seems to care that everything is getting much worse, so why do we continue to try to unbreak it. Normally with much stronger wording. The slight majority of those colleagues have now left and I hear that they’re working on mostly sensible things, and being paid well for it.

The most surprising aspect to me is that the company doesn’t appear to fail, despite all of what you write and the incompetence we are both seeing. Shrug. Next speaker please.

And nobody cares about you being 'away' on Teams all the time?
