So how long is this fiber build in the Midwest Ibew 21 really supposed to take? I'm hearing possibly five years or are they going to short in this project like they did with U-verse By Green lighting only a limited number of Geographic areas? Trying to plan for the future any real Knowledgeable input here?, thanks

I honestly don’t know why anyone would get DSL internet if you can get cable internet. My choice is 18m dsl or 400m cable internet. Unless your lucky enough to be in a ftth area.
No telling what the game plan is. The managers in the south suburban areas have taken on a level of bloodlust never seen before. They are inventing reasons for trying to fire guys, usually comes before a change of heart on a build. Next will be force readjustments then surplus.
They haven’t finished hiring all the 3rd party scab labor for the installs. Then they’ll be ready.
Is AT&T even planning on expanding into new geographic regions of the country? Or is this fiber build an attempt to try to hold onto existing customers? AT&T fiber isn't anywhere remotely close to where I live and can't see how they can even compete with the established players anymore.
The OP presupposes that T has a long term plan.
I think OP would be surprised how much time leadership devotes to political intrigues and muddling thru the day to day.
Fiber build Fiber build Fiber build. It's all useless when the tech's don't even show up for installs. We have 9 so far this month that have no shows. And the fiber " manager " is about as useful as ni-ples on a boar.
By the time T nears fiber ubiquity, other tech leaders will have already planned, built and deployed mobile network IP services. T is a lagging technology adopter, which is reflected in the stock price.

I've been wondering too about anything related to fiber. The checkbook should be wide open to anything related to fiber. 5G should've been done by now. Some of the most dense areas in Chicago haven't even been touched with fiber.
Are you kidding? You better be worried about climate change and equality in that region. Chicago is a racist city, why build anything there?
Pretty sure key geographical areas will be targeted. T can’t afford to go widespread given the debt load.
