Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

A lot of the PIP posts are very negative

I am referring to the post below about PIP. It is not true that PIP always means that they will get rid of you and that you will lose your job. I beat PIP. It was very stressful, but I'm still here. Also, I know a person who once survived PIP and not only that, but after a while he also got a promotion.

I got on a PIP, beat it, and was one of many victims of a layoff a few weeks later. It DOES mean they want you gone, don't be delusional. Luckily I landed a new job making a lot more than the paltry sum Intel considers """competitive with the rest of the industry""". You can too.

Never ever accept the PIP if it gets thrown at you. It is the devil's punishment plan that companies use to get rid of unwanted employee. PIP is never about improving employee performance. Think this way, if the company genuinely wants to keep an employee, they would never put that employee on a PIP.
I was put on a PIP many years ago and it had nothing to do with performance, it was due to petty politics in that department and a weak pushover manager who couldn't do a thing. I refused to participate in the plan and I negotiated a decent severance package and left. My manager said to me that you are a wise man because we would have failed you at the end of the 30-day PIP period anyways and you wouldn't receive a severance package. Whether that was a truth or lie, things wouldn't work out anyways. I was in a very vulnerable position at that time because I was still on an H1B visa any my GC process just started. I had to start over the whole process at the new company. I am glad I don't have to go through immigration complications anymore.

If your employer slams your face with a PIP, just stay calm and arrange the exist plan quickly. You can't reject the PIP, once you are put on a PIP you have to chose between taking the PIP or resign. Try to talk to a employment lawyer as well. PIP is one of the ugly faces of the corporate world.

@OP: you used words like “beat”, “survive”, “stress”. Sounded like the plan was harsh. How did you (or your manager) even get yourself into the situation? Was it behavior or technical problems in your case, got improved via your plan? Did the person getting PIP and then promotion, have the same manager for both cases?

I agree! After the way they treated you, you should walk away on your terms. I wish you well and good luck!

Why brag about beating it for a company that was trying to get rid of you? Have some pride, surely you are employable elsewhere. You’ll be shown the door someday so escape while you can.
