Hi I don't work at Ford anymore but I live in Dearborn so I know the weather!
Doug Field feels he has 10 to 20% extra engineering workforce.
For example Ford infotainment system has probably 5 to 10 X more people as Tesla.
So cuts are coming.
If you are a young engineer think twice before you join FORD is they have 20% more engineers then they need what that says about HR and management!
Who can you be sure you not joining the next 20 % ?

As retired I do not miss the 20 month cycles of the business: 4 months of rumors and pending re-org, 8 months of buy-outs and forced separations, then 8 months of muddling through the actual re-org figuring out what its supposed to be. Sorry folks who are living this.

Everything I have heard says that upcoming layoffs will be shock/awe to get the stock price back up.

I have heard up to 20% PD/VO (most are ICE related) and minimal severance.

Start preparing now.

If they follow their usual playbook. Purchased services, agency, then full time. The cycle plan dictates the manpower. There is no major engine, trans, or axle programs so ICE will get hit hard.
Then also look were all the product development is going? South of the border. My guess things will happen soon. You have a $3bn task for ICE followed by an additional $1bn for rising commodity pricing. 2nd or 3rd qtr.

I'm guessing that involuntary layoffs are coming at some point this year, but nothing will be determined until the ramifications of the re-org are complete. Not saying the company is better or worse, just saying there is so much unknown at this point that there is no way to determine how many people they want to eliminate. I also give "buyouts" (new cr*ppy version, not golden parachute version) a 25% chance with involuntary layoffs being deferred until 2023.

Nah @oht not how it works at Ford.
The talent is leaving Ford in droves, but the un-talented masses continually expand at Ford: sloths, luddites, delusional thought leaders, exec wannabes. The untalented Ford masses always seek ways to band together to push out talented competitors (lay-offs). The execs always seek lower cost options (off shoring, laying off highest compensated employees).

I think it is moot at this point. Lots of people leaving the company. I know of 4 more just this week in my area. It will get to the point where they can't lay off anyone because they will be hiring.
