Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

You'll get fired if you don't RTO...ask me how I know.

This week, had a meeting with my manager about my concerns around COVID and RTO. I have been very upfront about my extreme hesitation and health conditions that put me at high risk for COVID complications. Plus I have members in my family who are also high risk.

I asked if I could wait a few weeks before I RTO to see if any outbreaks occurred on campus. I was told by my HR representative that if I don't show up on March 28th, I will be terminated.

Where's this written down? I haven't found it anywhere, but I guess that's the company line.

Agree- not hearing about firing of unvaccinated or those who have not RTO.

Several weeks and no one got fired for being unvaccinated. Take some of these posts with a grain of salt and not as gospel.

@qeyl+1fOGYHoo are you in GSCO? That group got a special exception for full WFH because the turnover rate is so bad and people they were interviewing to replace those leaving openly scoffed at going into the office.

How are you all RTO but other locations are permanent wfh ? Unless there is a meeting or training then it’s RTO for that only then back home

Nah, I think it's a problem employee they are looking to can. I know many who were granted additional flexibility at this time.

You know, the original post here reads like an HR mole wrote it under the guise of an employee that had an issue to influence the RTO resistant people.

NY lifted the vaxx mandate for athletes. Ha! If you are a peon schmuck working for a living, different story.

Didn't the black jacket email from last week say masks and vaxx were optional at all office locations? Today's meeting says those at 200 P must be vaxxed. Who screwed up here? What happens to the unvaxxed who work at 200 P?

Ah @3idz+1fOGYHoo , I'm so glad that HR has an important purpose. They are the swipe police.

The “HR” response is a complete and utter fabrication. There is an 8 week grace period for managers and employees to apply. Find something better to do.

I'm in HR and asked my team lead about this since managers in my group at least have been giving conflicting guidance. Lead's response:

  • Officially if you don't show up next week and don't have it in record that you're formally requesting an exception through ER you will be considered voluntarily terminated.
  • Most LOBs are not going to waste the time auditing badge swipes next week. Expect audits to be coming in the future.
  • Managers are officially supposed to direct employees to ER for any RTO exceptions (probably what OP is experiencing but sounds like the manager did a sh-t job at delivering the message). Anyone who has gotten an exception from their manager and not ER better make sure they have it written in an email for future CYA.

Right, there's probably a backstory the OP is conveniently omitting here. I know several who were granted extended RTO.

You shouldn’t get fired if you don’t show up on the 28th (unless your manager is looking for a reason to fire you). If you have supporting reasons to not RTO, skip your manager and speak to employee relations to get those reasons on file. Your HR rep should have directed you there.

It’s up to each manager to work with each employee to set a plan, offer flexibility where needed, and see how it goes/adjust. Childcare, commuting, whatever.

I am not about to lose people because of rigid RTO structures; I will be as flexible as I can with those employees who have been there for me over the past two years to hopefully retain them.

@Somuchbs I wish I was kidding but I have an email from HR that says otherwise. Maybe our HR rep is misinformed but that's also a problem imo. Trust me that I don't want to be dealing with this stress right now.

There’s an 8 week grace period and if you have documented medical conditions, seek an accommodation from employee relations. Met certainly has its short comings but you are posting bullish!t to get others riled up. Stop spreading garabage and post actual information.

You're welcome to go in if you feel safe. I don't. @tgt+1fOGYHoo

I'm confused because this is in direct contradiction to what we were told in our town hall in my area. We were told that there will be an 8-week grace period. I guess they'll be firing everyone on my team because our director told us we can wait a few weeks since a lot of us are struggling to find after school care for our kids now.
