Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Offices start reopening March 21st

Per email from HR. Starting with Merchandise Mart in Chicago on 3/21. We were told this morning Hudson re-opens sometime in May. Does anyone really believe their numbers that about half of all employees want to return to the office? Said department leaders will decide what teams and areas return to in office work this spring and summer.

I was told around June 2021 that I was made a permanent work from home employee. My department was reduced by about 75%. The two other departments in my building were greatly reduced as well. Our building is leased and not owned by the company. There is no rational business case for them to force us to go back to the office.

I read it as if your office is still open you will be going back in at least a hybrid form to justify their expenses for operating the center. If your former office is permanently closed, sold, or no more lease in effect then you will remain work from home.

I'll be staying remote or I will be quitting. Simple as that.

Most people will fight it because of the high price of fuel to commute to work. There will be a huge pushback against it. Allstate is just trying to justify their high rent for the buildings. If employees are there they can write it off as an expense with their taxes.
