Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Life after AIG

I got laid off in 2016 for being over 55 and it took me close to 2 years to be able to decompress from the stress of 14 very long years of working there. It was tough going trying to find a new job at that age, but looking back, I can honestly say that was one of the most fortunate days of my life. No more useless peer reviews, no more targets on my back, no more scrounging for enough work to justify my existence there after having most of it farmed out offshore, even at my worst, most unmotivated day I have now, even after taking a salary at half of what I made there, I still stop and say a little thank you to the powers that be for the fact that wherever I need to go that day, it ain't AIG! Hope you all find a similar Nirvana!

Getting early notice about being laid off from aig isn’t the worst thing in the world. It does give you the chance to decompress while getting paid and searching for new opportunities. The job market is pretty good and pay is considerably higher in my fields.

Also, since you are going to be let go; there isn’t much incentive to do the bare minimum in order to ensure your severance.

The proof is in the pudding....from 130,000 staff to what, 37,000 now...stand at the door of any AIG office location, who's walking in? Nobody over 45 unless they are upper management. It certainly wasn't incompetence on my part to survive 6-7 rounds of company-wide mass layoffs in 10 years until my time was up.
