Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Back in Office?

I'm retired from IT. Are employees back in the office? Is iTek going to be reopened?

The world has shifted, especially for IT. Look at the NYC banks that said everyone back to the office, IT workers laughed and just continued to work from home (only 20% came into the office). After two weeks the management had only managed to get 30% of the workers to come to the office. They declared victory and the majority of workers continued to work from home to this day.

Down deep Ford senior leadership knows that the workers that will run back to the office are the ones they should get rid of (brown nosing politicians). However, middle management wants the return to office so they can continue to climb upwards over coworkers, they also want to get the senior talented workers to train their replacements.
Senior leadership exerts no control over the middle management.

2suw,

These buildings are not going away any time soon. In fact, they are under going extensive remodeling. The people will return to Dearborn. Have you seen the massive amount of construction on the campus? The new PDC building will be massive.

I feel bad for the people that were dependent on Ford buildings for employment. Cafeteria and store employees, building maintenance, house-keeping, security. A lot of good folks are out of work today. So it is hard to take glee in the demise of these buildings despite enjoying getting to work from home.

Surprised to hear about iTek. The poured so much money into the open office environment there, which I thought was horrible personally, and now it's up for sale. No wonder their vehicles are so expensive.

Not so much a hoax, but rather a nothing-burger for most. I don't expect we'll see a general appetite for wide-spread shut-downs, constant masking, and inability to live a normal, uncomplicated life regardless of what certain experts want to see happen.

Covid is starting to heat back up again in the UK. China and now the USA as well. Here we go again! But I heard it was all a hoax?

Don't close down those home offices yet!

They are still remodeling buildings on the campus. Some people say the buildings will be torn down ( like buildings 3 & 5 ) but probably not, since they are historical. The new PDC building is just starting construction, so we will see. I would say later this year people will have to return the office. I just don't see Ford paying for all of
this real estate and not using these offices.
Quality is failing - time to return to Dearborn.

Yeah!!!! I hated that building with a passion.....not cool or great to work in under the old guise, and then when I went back in 2019/2020 it was still bad even after the interior redesign.

What a bunch of wimps... You are going back to the office where you belong. Work from home is ending soon as it should be. Oh... I'm more productive at home... Bla bla bla. Stay home and you will get a box to return your gear, easy pickens... Lol

@OP

No, they never came back. Ford HR sent out a confusing return to hybrid protocol on the @Ford. They basically said that returning to the office is optional. I am one of the few that has worked on site all along. It's not too bad, a short drive and the buildings are next to empty. Things probably will not change until the new PDC building is finished.
