Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Great engineers, where are they now?

Many great engineers used to work here. Some of the best experts in their field have worked at Intel. But how many of these engineers are still here? I'm afraid very little. Unfortunately, I think that those who still remain at Intel will soon be looking for jobs at other companies.

Many technical managers even don’t have a US degree.

Even the high ranked individual contributors now only know how to tell people what to do, but don't know how to show people how things are done.

There are many managers who don’t appreciate or understand the technical challenges that we face for short and long terms. Managers believe that they just need to be involved in high-visibility contests for promotions. This is frustrating for the engineers who focus on pushing the boundaries to the next level.

Overall, Intel had a good run. Now, it is time for other companies to shine!

Intel still has lot of talented engineers. Problem is management. Pat has to get rid of so many Director/Sr Directors/VPs to improve Intel culture and DNA.

Other companies offer better pay and opportunities to advance.

It’s as simple as that.

I wouldn't say it's a diversity thing, you always try to hire qualified people no matter what. It is more about the company culture of showing no weakness and always having to be right, regardless of your true knowledge or ability, particularly at all management levels. People chop one another down and don't build each other up because they only care about themselves. That culture worked fine when we had a monopoly and easier process problems to solve, now that self-interest and arrogance puts the future at risk.

What happened? Intel shifted from "Hiring the best" to "Hiring the most diverse."
