Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

BARNES & NOBLE SHUTTING DOWN SOON and it's GOING TO GET UGLY

You can read on this site and all of social media including Facebook, Twitter and even YouTube that the company is not doing well at all. Sales have never come back to a profitable level and more last ditch "restructuring" is coming again soon. Disgruntal ex-employees may enjoy hearing many of the long-term managers will finally be given the boot in another cost-saving attempt to keep the company above water.
More updates ahead.

OMG..you have saying this for YEARS!! You keep showing that you are pathetic losers with constantly posting this. I
left BN several years ago and I read these posts and feel sorry for your pitiful life. Move on. Who cares.

“Let’s talk about receiving then, that's the heart of any store “
Throwing them out, to save a buck, has now helped their decline. If product isn’t rapidly cycled to the floor( be it new releases, new magazines, new movie releases) customers lost faith in finding what they were looking for and started ordering online . Not from BN.com. Takes too long, and packed poorly. Amazon will deliver new product day & date ! Throwing away valuable employees to bring in non invested part timers was one of the most ridiculous ideas. Just so you know, I wasn’t a receiver. Just an ASM who left not long after the stu*id decision was made.

Let’s talk about receiving then, that's the heart of any store and B&N management would always make their lives he-l. I remember the Regional Manager and/or clueless corporate id--ts would always have the d-mbest ideas and force our store to do them- especially when it would create so much unnecessary extra work for the team. Eventually, they would find a way to force the receiving manager to quit or fire or lay them off, it was sickening to watch this happen again and again.

But it didn’t stop in receiving, it was common practice to get the merch and café managers the petty SM didn't like to quit. B&N truly is one of the worst run companies around.

To summarize, there’s a lot of good things to say about UNIONS!

“ Barnes and Noble Receiving which I'm sure has dissolved. ”
“ Those of us left need to stick together so that they don't sack us like they did during that massive layoff!!”

Every BN store I’ve worked, Receiving held the store together ! Since the massive layoff they realized that. Product not getting out in timely period. Especially magazines. New issues sit in back. They sacked them. You think they won’t sack you?!

Those of us left need to stick together so that they don't sack us like they did during that massive layoff!!

If you are still there. That’s exactly what they’re going to do to you.

I don't have any social media by choice. I have always been curious what kind of stuff goes on these FB and Twitter pages that everyone talks about. Down with BN and Daunt.

Does anyone belong to any of the other groups on social media? There are Barnes & Noble Keyholders and two Alumni groups, Barnes and Noble LGBT (and allied) employees, Barnes and Noble Children's Leads, Barnes and Noble Receiving which I'm sure has dissolved. Am I missing any others on Facebook?
I know Retail Life can be a good page too, I see a lot of B&N employees venting there.
Also the Indeed and other job sites- the reviews on B&N and management are scathing.

I know TheLayoff is probably the only place where you can keep your anonymity and say exactly what is going on but I was wondering if there is any other site.

My store manager is the worst and I don't know why anyone would trust her. She hates this site because it tells the truth and has exposed her for all of the sleazy things her and her BN buddies have pulled over the years. But what's even worse, the regional manager sets this example!

This could describe anywhere . It sure applies to the Nashville area.

Horrible management and bad decisions have come back around full circle. From DMs to store Mgrs , the company has been in decline since The Riggios jumped ship.

When they close a store they say they are going to find another location but they never do, another sign that the company is going down. I seriously don't know how they can pay the rent for the stores left as it is.

I have talked to so many people and they all tell me how disgusting and sleazy the company has become and I'm not just talking about the employees! I know customers that won't shop their anymore and vendors that don't want to deal with B&N because they're afraid they won't be able to pay their bills.

Finally. My dream has come true. BTW, there is some article stating that BN is going to renovate all of their stores into what the smaller, modern looking stores are. Where exactly are they getting this cashflow? And according to one manager, only one district carried the company over the last holiday season. That is alarming and should be a wake up call for people to get out now. Down with BN and Daunt.
