The worst things about working at Sam's

I'm thinking, the list of the worst things about working at Sam's would be really huge. I think the lack of organization might be the worst one, do you agree? Or are incompetent managers even worse than that?I hope that this forum is also visited by those who are considering applying for a job here so that they can see what to expect.

Worst thing? The Cafe food. How is that you’re expected to pay $100 to be a “member” of this exclusive membership club yet the food at the cafe is of the poorest quality and the most mediocre ingredients? You’d think being such an exclusive club and all that the cafe would have some superior quality offerings with nothing but the best ingredients!

This mentality that Costco is the enemy. The obsession that Costco is to be hated, unspoken and feared. This company acts like competition is bad. They say that Sam’s Club associates shouldn’t shop at Costco. How ridiculous! So if you work at McDonald’s you shouldn’t eat at Wendy’s, Burger King? If you work at KFC or Popeye’s you shouldn’t eat at Chick Fil A? If you work at Dillard’s you shouldn’t shop at Macy’s or Nordstrom? If you work at Walmart you shouldn’t shop at Target? RIDICULOUS!!!!!

NO ONE CARES ANYMORE. IT's ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. It's nothing like when I started in 86. I am ready to get OUT.

Every grocery store has an Asian aisle as well as a Mexican food aisle

I don't think the south east has a strong asian presence.

As far as the red pallets go it's a ploy companies use to get more Asian shoppers. Just like the casinos in Las vegas if you notice there is always red carpets and red colors all over. It's a sign of good luck but in America it's used to get blithe Asian community to come into your place if business and spend money.

“Members aren’t here to shop for pallets, they’re here to shop for merchandise.”

  • Gisel Ruiz former COO of Sam’s Club on the topic of eliminating pallet skirts and having multiple colored pallets exposed underneath what was once hidden.

The company will get rid of older associates. As a former CM and 29 years employed I know this for sure. I was not allowed to step down as a CM at another club as they told me the CM at that club would be uncomfortable. Yet they said I could quit and reapply. That’s odd I would still be a former CM. They didn’t want me to still have to me top dollar and keep all my PTO. They wanted me to start over instead at $16 and have no PTO. Sam’s is a joke. Upper management is untrustworthy, inconsistent, and play favorites just like all other managers. They manipulate the system to get rid of who they want and to put others in place. They change their minds at the drop of a hat and have no idea how clubs actually run.

I think you got our old GM, we went from worrying about how shirts were folded last month, got our new RM this month, who only cares about pallet colors. The new rtard thinks if all the pallets on the cart rail, seasonal, and endcaps are red ppl will...buy... more? Getting rid of nightshift we were suppose to make merchandising more streamlined and easier. Instead we got a bunch of drooling crayon eaters coming up with busy work because they have a hard time justifying their 200K salaries.

We gained a new head from Mexico. All he is worried about is how the clothes are folded, boxes are stacked, and that there is nothing on the freezer floor. Clothes folded to perfection on the tables, as if they are going to stay that way more than one minute. They're here for the discounts, not his perceived notion of Sam's Club heaven. His snobbery is unbelievable. At least he got his pictures today. What a donkey's behind!

It is always maniac, and as if royalty is coming, when company was coming, we are having visitors, home office is coming, they’re touring clubs today. For God's sake everything has to be perfect, sp-c n span. It's ridiculous, it's a damn warehouse, members are shopping, be happy the registers are taking in your almighty dollars and stop being aholes, how can things be perfect when business is being conducted? Suggestion = stay in your ivory tower, as long as the bank deposit is made daily, stay the fk out of the clubs. The associates who work that club know the ins and outs of the club more than you will ever know.

The funny thing is we appease the peons who come to visit, do everything the way they want. The second they leave we do it the way we have to, throwing all the stupid sh-t they push aside. They want us to treat the store like we care about it more than anything, the truth is, we're all here to collect a paycheck, not worry if every shirt is folded properly, or if every box is fronted in the freezer. Most importantly, and I can't stress this enough, It's just a fking store. No one cares.

“Company is coming.”

“We’re having visitors.”

“Home office is coming.”

“They’re touring clubs today.”

Any of these sayings you hear and the frenzied freak outs begin. The dog and pony shows. The circus that ensues. Why this company is so he-l bent on constantly nitpicking and criticizing every minuscule thing in these clubs is absurd. The most petty and insignificant things are picked apart and made to be if the utmost importance yet actual REAL issues and problems remain blown off and ignored.
