These horror stories happen here EVERY day. We have EOL TDM and ATM gear all over the place. We hope that a colo closure will provide some backup hardware in the event of a failure. We no longer stock a warehouse to support our network. When something fails no one really knows who to contact for replacement parts. Going to the grey market is a problem too. We go looking for hardware that doesn't exist and some vendors have not stocked in over 10 years. The team that used to support that network is now 1 person and we outsourced his job in some cases.

Just like any branch of the armed forces It's all about having a battle plan. We don't have one, just open an outage bridge and hope for the best!

IT is a complete mess. At one point IT Security was going to try to push out a VPN update that would have required the end user to have localadmin to install. It was going to lock most of our workforce out of the VPN.

I've been trying to track down the owner of one of our revenue streams. Evidently we laid the whole team off years ago and it is pure luck the other company is still paying us.

Glad to hear Helpless Desk hasn't changed since the the IT employees that knew what they were doing, were laid off cuz they made too much $. You see, you get what you pay for. Best of luck with that new mouse!

IT are the most underpaid and overworked group at WS. I admit most everyone (all departments) are underpaid and overworked. We have inexperienced people working for peanuts trying to manage systems they have no knowledge of. How many systems go down every week? Changes made every weekend, some times midweek. what worked on Friday no longer works on Monday. External sites we need to do our work show us as blocked or certain functions not longer load within those site. Help Desk can't even order us a replacement mouse without 4 people having to approve it.
