Purchased Services Layoff In PDC

My team just lost 2 colleagues.

They were technically good and hard working people.

Not acceptable at all.

I am hearing 40% agency reduction targets too.

Good Engineers are being targeted. The salaried folks in my team don’t work at all. Simply attend meetings and waste everyones time.

PS and Agency are the only ones who do any work in many areas.
It certainly is true in our area now. We did have 4 technical LL6 who were doing the lions share of the work, but they were all SRD. They were back filled with inept GSRs being promoted to LL6. Since they were promoted they have been complaining that (a) they don’t have anyone on their team who can do the work, (b) they don’t have training budget to train anyone, (c) too much is expected of them. So our PS and Agency staff tripled. Part of how they justified the PS and Agency hires was so they would mentor and train the Ford staff. The problem is the Ford staff in our area (including LL6s) don’t want to work hard and learn. They all could pick up manuals, read and learn. But why bother when they get paid for doing nothing.

Ford got along without purchased services for a long time. In my area there are now more PS than Ford employees.

PS are a cost cutter, not a source of skills we can’t develop internally. You’ll get the conversion carrot on a stick but the Company cares even less about you than they do about their salaried employees.
