Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

When your hate for this place begins to rub off on society

Working here has honestly made me a sh*tty person. I have no idea how to relate to others and, frankly, I hate many of my coworkers because they represent AIG, like me. I don't even feel I have the patience to interview well with other companies, especially insurance companies, because I can't help but assume they're not going to be much different than here.

Clearly this is all nonsensical and irrational but that's what garbage companies do to hard working employees. Despite the fact that i'm searching around, feeling burnt out, making relatively less money than what I started with when i first joined, and having a manager who talks to me as if "i'm solely responsible for my career at AIG" (which, to me, sounds like a manager who is subverting his/her responsibility to develop employees) is totally soul crushing. On top of that, given many of our experiences with the mid-level "leadership" at this company, why would any of us even want to discuss our career progression with our managers. It's abundantly clear that the type of culture AIG values in its management is that of fear and insecurity. Don't speak up and stagnate, or speak up and get stonewalled..

Get a second job contracting and do the bare minimum at both while collecting two paychecks, and look for a real job at a real company

Get counseling, get a game plan to find a better job , and execute on it.

The bar for a better job isn’t very high. Many of your co workers will be leaving in the near future so you won’t be alone.
