I remember being in meetings a few years back, where the marketing “geniuses” were frothing at the mouth over a “new” customer grid to determine marketing and pricing strategy. The thing that stuck out the most was the “pure loyalist” quadrant. Those who had been with Big A for a number of years. No discounts for them, they were giving all the discounts to the “shopper” quadrant - not loyal, price-driven, high acquisition costs, low retention, but get them in the door with all sorts of discounts, spare no expense. I used to be one of those “pure loyalists”, and recall vividly, being very uncomfortable with this new marketing strategy, and taking offense to how they were treating their most loyal customers. Why reward your best customers? Keep sticking it to them with premium increases. They’re not going anywhere. Well, guess what? When I got laid off, the first thing I did was switch companies, and guess what - I saved over 50% on my premiums. Allstate can go s*ck it!
