Severance Payback

For those that were laid off and accepted the severance package and then were rehired by Centene. Do they make you pay back the severance or can you keep it?

It depends how your severance was paid out. If a lump sum then yes some portion can be clawed back though you may want to check with an attorney and have them review your separation documents.

If you’re receiving g regular payments, you don’t have to pay them back but you don’t get to keep receiving two checks. The severance payments will stop when you start again.

Is the timing around the payback the same for everyone or depending on what your package is?

If they want you bad enough after a layoff either make your best deal with them or wait it out.

Depends on the timing. Come back soon after layoff then you'll have to pay back a portion of it.

I came back 4 months later and I didn’t have to pay anything back.

There were timely rules around that in the package you sign off on. It depends on how soon you are hired back as to how much you have to pay back.
