Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Marketable folks have already left or about to in the next year

Here's a brutal observation: anyone below the age of 45 still working for this company mid 2022 is simply stuck, unemployable elsewhere and so left to put up with a increasingly toxic work-place. The smart ones that could/can easily transition to other companies or industries have already left or about to in 2022.

Good luck to those who remain, buckle up. Little to no raises, dying industry, incompetent, out-of-touch and corrupt management is here to stay. Also here to say: children of past incompetent management! There are so many of them clogging up the system and requiring babysitting so they succeed at all costs.

Truth is our systems are so controlled, inefficient and old that folks can't even think for themselves. Take controllers for example: so called intelligent accountants who can't do actual accounting! Why: Dataflex does everything for them with all those endless conforms designed to 'id--t-proof' reporting for these so called smart accountants. What happens when you leave?? How will you market yourself? 'I completed conform 100 & 200 & etc etc.' ..... nobody cares, literally nobody cares. If you're smart, get out now before it's too late. As for 'stewardship' reporting, don't even get me started on how utterly useless those skills are to the outside world.

If you can, get out now! Unless of course you're motivated only by a pay-cheque and couldn't care less about being challenged intellectually (i.e. most supervisors and managers at Imperial - they can't even hold a conversation beyond the mundane oil & gas or their vacation in Hawaii or wait for it: sports).

Happy new year

I am just amazed how many white men are at the top at Controller's. I think it is one of the most toxic group at IOL....

Well some of us have skills just hoping we can smudge out a severance. When they did the first country studies if they had a volunteer option would have been more ideal for some of us. Fingers crossed for CS&I study

I love our Controller's group. They make us all look smart in comparison. For every matter that we engage Controllers, we do get a delayed response - "let us run this by EM and get back to you". It's time to eliminate the useless middlemen.

I totally agree with the insightful post. The fact of the matter is that a majority of the so called "jobs" in IOL Controllers can easily be ported to GBCs and performed at 20% of current costs. Currently, all significant accounting activity is performed at GBCs. Controllers are simply analyzing data. We pay incredible dollars for the monthly "MC pack", the culmination of countless hours of work, dry runs and reviews, which is outdated by the time presented and provides no decision useful information. The army of individuals who manage this process are paid above market salaries and benefits. Incredibly some non-exec. managers in Controllers receive stock based compensation. When asked to quantify the value add to the organization by a group that mainly input data and conform to a scripted process, you don't hear much. 2022 will be an exciting year for sure. Wait and watch...
