Demotions @ Ford

Were there a lot of demotions in the last 3-4 years? Please comment only if you have first hand info - like if someone said to you "Hey, I got demoted from X to Y". No hearsay please.

@1drk: You're absolutely right about demotions being part of SRD. Employees in the pension plan who were old enough and had enough years of service that terminating them would not have yielded a large cost savings were demoted, reassigned, and given one year of individual grade protection (IGP) before they received the pay cut associated with their new pay grade. I was one of those "lucky" employees in Product Development. I asked my LL4 how many others were in the same boat and he said there were more than 100 demotions from LL6 to SG8 in PD alone. During the IGP year I applied for seven LL6 positions for which I was highly qualified and didn't get invited to interview for any of them. I knew a number of the LL6s who were also victims of this policy, and every one of them was a white male over age 50.

I only know of one LL6 who took a GSR8 slot due to stress of the job. I think that was in 2017. He was working an incredible number of hours in VEV, weekdays and weekends, as a LL6. I lost track of him, but he was close to retirement age and might have taken one of the recent packages.

My hubby was part of the SRD in 2019. He would’ve happily taken a demotion to stay at Ford but that was not an option. There was a position open that the hiring manager would have gladly taken him but HR wouldn’t allow it! They wanted the managers out even though most had glowing reviews & dedicated their careers to Ford! It’s all about the money or lack there of!

There were lots of demotion. Majority white older males. They called them in and gave then the option of either accepting the demotion and signing a statement they will not sue Ford - or be terminated and walked out of the building immediately. They then told them they had 1 yr to try to earn it back before the demotion was permanent. However Ford's evil behavior did not end there as they told all hiring managers to ignore these people's applications in favor of young staff. I know this as this happened not only to my spouse, but also a person in my section. Was terrible watching then apply for jobs they were more than qualified and experienced but not even an interview. This is who Ford really is.

Actually its the opposite. When they were cutting middle managers in 2019, many of those cuts were willing to take a demotion to keep their pensions vesting. And we're told no.

Only demotion I know of personally was a voluntary one sure to not liking the workload at the higher level.
