Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Apple gives some engineers a rare $180,000 bonus to prevent them from defecting to Meta and the tech giant's other rivals

Still wondering if you're getting screwed-over by IBM on salary?

So ... we get paid way less than market, horrible/toxic work environment with no job security due to constant layoffs, abusive/clueless/incompetent management that keeps saying: "just be glad you have a job" and "if you don't like it, just leave", pay for travel/equipment/work cell phones/network connections out of our own pockets, and benefits that aren't even close to being competitive ... and management wonders why everybody's jumping ship??? Wake up and smell the coffee! 😒

Hey new Amazon employee -

maybe not the part of the company you work for, but Amazon nonetheless.

Hopefully you think about this every time you cash your paycheck.

Right on -- and it's not just the labor marketplace! In their infinite wisdom, our BOD voted to PAY GF $1.5B to TAKE the BTV and FSH IC Fabs off our hands in 2015 ... because after spending $5B to build the FSH Fab, they wouldn't spend the incremental $$$ to get the yields up to where the Fab was profitable ... and now there's a global IC shortage so severe that it's literally shutting down manufacturing production lines across the entire planet!!! Can't make this stuff up ... and the blind arrogance, squandered opportunities, and just general d-mb-assery continue! In the coming decades, Business Schools will incorporate IBM's downfall into their curriculums, so future business leaders can avoid the unforced errors that IBM management inflicted upon our once great company.

IBM = 120 billion market cap. Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Meta = 2-3 trillion in market cap. They have the deep pockets to hire the transformative talent while IBM is struggling to keep their head above water. There is a reason IBM has moved offshore and it relates to being able to attract talent at lower prices. The big boys have priced IBM out of the market when it comes to on shore talent. Now that is executive management at its finest. (Yes Ginni we are talking about you) Over the last 5 years, your plan of layoff your current talent into a white hot jobs market, then realize you can’t hire lower priced talent anywhere. Brilliant!!! They will be studying your business savee for years. He-l of a job IBM board he-l of a job

Just switched to Amazon (IBM didn’t see a lot of potential in me) and tripled my salary.

Apple is business to consumer
IBM is only B2B
If Apple was only B2B we’d be kicking their a-s easily.
But Apple isn’t stupid and knows where the real money is.
Now be a good sheep and finish your useless checkpoint goals.

Agreed. IBM can't afford it and the future isn't too rosy. You know things are going in the wrong direction when the stock is propped up with unaffordable dividends.

It's easy to give big sums of cash and/or RSUs to employees when the business is actually growing!
