Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Aiming for internal position

My intention is to change the team.

However, I'm a little worried about how the manager will react when I tell him that, that is, I'm not at all sure how to best tell him that I want to apply for another job internally. Some people tell me it's not easy to get an internal job. Any advice?

With my analysis on your post & reply. Calling yourself Tony Stark and suggest to take injections to become superhero makes up of Intel narrow minded core(s).
There are superheroes and villains that does not has anything to do with mutant. Are you suddenly becomes X-Men or Turtle?
This shows how narrow minded Intel person and cultures is. Can never accept criticisms and always thought highly of themselves.
If you believe you are good enough, why aiming for internal positions? I bet you are not ready to go outside of Intel to challenge yourself and worry it will fail miserably

Hi @7lib, this is @op. Thanks for asking.
Obviously, you should undergo a series of injections in order to obtain mutant superpowers first. Then once your DNA has been completely modified the world will have no choice but to submit to your whims. At that point who can say if you are a hero or a villian or not. I'm sure even Bezos will be envious of all of the jobs you'll be receiving and the positions you will get them in.

I wonder the same, but I have bigger thought
My intention is to change the world. However I'm little worried that B1den, X1 and other little honchos will react when I tell them that. I'm not sure how to tell them that I want to apply for Avengers or DC. Some people tell me to be a villain better than be a hero, what's your advice?

Jeez. Do you think your manager cares when you get a vsp note??

2022 Headcount allocation coming, should be lots of positions opening this month.

Make a Gantt chart. Start applying close to when pay raises are locked. This gives you several months to apply to roles.

I had a job where I was treated like cr-p And was high stress. Recommended for promo by first line manager. I knew there are no guarantees. Had a less stressful job lined up to accept if promo didn’t come through. End result is they only gave me exceeds, sh---y raise and I just left to the new role and got a promo within 6 months.

Do what’s best for your kids not your manager #^£¥head.

Never tell your manager you are looking internally or externally. It doesn't help you in any way. It only gives you manager more power to block you or give you a bad focal!

There are managers who consider looking for a different group to be a sign of disloyalty towards him, and therefore detrimental to their own image. If your group doesn't offer the advancement opportunities you seek, better look into a new job with another company altogether. BTW, if you can't find another job at Intel after telling your manager that you're looking, he'll make sure your performance review is negative.

I tried this too, and was just blocked. Time to look elsewhere.

Before you do anything check your "Job details" under Workday->Apps->About me.
Due to the latest push by HR to catalog everybody into 85 boxes to help HR decide easily if you need to be compensated or not as compared to other similar companies....your manager has quietly changed your job title in Workday.
Example: In my team couple of Software engineers titles were changed to DevOps title without their knowledge or the manager discussing the change during Insights 1:1.
So check Workday 1st between now and mid-Jan This will affect your compensation during focal.

Be honest. Tell the manager that you appreciate your current team and him but that you want to see if you can grow in other direction that you are very much passionate about. Make sure that you tell him that you'd be OK if you had to stay in his team (you are signalling that there is noting wrong with him) etc...

Do not count your chickens before they hatch.

What is your intention to tell your manager about your intention to change the team?

Did you get the offer for internal jobs already or you just starting applying and have not got any interviews yet? Or, you are in the middle of interviews, and very sure you will get an offer?

It’s fine. In fact it’s expected and a good thing - you are doing your manager a courtesy by telling him and giving him a chance to compete for your business. If you like this other job better because of any reason - pay, type of work, etc, maybe your manager will try to sweeten the deal on his end if he has that chance. This is how you should play it off - “I respect you enough to let you know so you can compete to keep me if I get an offer”
