Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

I have a simple wish

My one and only wish for this Christmas is to find a new job at a company that appreciates its employees and knows how important they are to its bottom line. A company that rewards hard work and promotes people based on merit. Is that really too much to ask for?

The problem with the Mikey “If you don’t like it, leave,” it is an indication that he is complacent and on a race to the bottom. The implication is that he is fine with SXC being sh1tty because he assumes it’s even sh1ttier elsewhere. In poorly managed organizations like DXC you will hear a lot of phrases like “Zero-tolerance policy,” “We don’t need an exit strategy,” “That’s just the way it is,” “Just hit your numbers,” “We don’t want excuses, we want results,” and of course, “If you don’t like it, you can leave.”

The classic hallmark of a leader who has only a shallow understanding of what it means to be a leader. It is lazy, offensive, and cruel. It demonstrates a leader’s unwillingness to listen or develop people, which is one of the most fundamental responsibilities of being a leader. Ironically, because those kinds of statements are intended to project an image of tough leadership, they are in fact a surrender and admission of defeat and broadcasts their impotence.

Welcome to DXC.

As Mikey is very fond of saying ‘if you don’t like then leave’. He’s not interested in anything other than his options. His cronies are all the same, if they had any brains they would’ve accepted the Atos approach and moved on.

Why aim so high? A company that appreciates its employees is nice, but not necessary. Most companies (not DXC) at least know employees are necessary for profit and growth. That's all you need to get paid and treated decently. DXC has no chance of growth. This is why the execs only care about appearances and finances to make the stock look good just long enough for them to exit on a high. This is a short-term job for all the execs. Once you accept that you will stop wishing and start acting. DXC is a dud run by self-serving id--ts. Anyone sticking around and waiting for things to change, well, there is not much hope for those people. Get the heck out the dumpster fire.

"It takes real effort and can take a long time (up to 6 months) for the right job"

This is correct. And you may experience some failures along the way. Interviewing is a specific skill which takes time and practice to develop.

But eventually, if you keep at it, you will succeed and find a new position with a better company.

Good luck.

Wishes don't work. You have to put real effort in and yes, sometimes you will get a lucky break, but you have to be on the map in the minds of recruiters and employers.

It takes real effort and can take a long time (up to 6 months) for the right job to come your way or at least one you know you can do. Increase your chances by finding the right agency (2 or 3 to widen your footprint) and telling them exactly what you are looking for. Write a CV using short clear words of achievement or if you must then use 'responsibilities' (no padding). Make sure your linked-in has all the right buzzwords that reflect what you do. Look at the linked-in profiles of grades higher than you in the same job role and see what words could apply to you, because agencies are always using linked in, even if you switch off the 'I am open to offers' flag.

See it as a PR marketing exercise to get yourself out there and research the companies for info that no-one else will know, what their aspirations are and how you see yourself and skills helping and plugging into that and use that in the interviews.

Wishing is fine, but it doesn't do much other than allow that tide of negativity to continually wash over you and allow you to see yourself as a the hard, done-to, person. Which isn't a good place. Much better to keep yourself focused on job hunting.

Sure you can wish.

Unfortunately, our local boss and leader are incompetence...

Simple but not easy.

If you had marketable skills you would have been gone long ago.

So, are you willing to do whatever it takes to be attractive to those other companies? If yes then do it. If no then I have no sympathy for you.
