Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why people are still joining AT&T

New grads need to get that 1st job on the resume so they can't be turned down for no experience. Being at AT&T 2 or 3 years in entry level is not a ki---r like having 15 years at AT&T know for lack of good experience

That's it in a nutshell. And that's why if you're hoping that AT&T will lay off too many people and have nobody to hire due to its reputation, you'll be waiting forever.

My experience working with some new grads has not been very promising unfortunately. They are on their personal devices most of the time. Never miss a lunch and are out the door 5:00PM sharp. I had to tell one newbee that we work on release weekends and must be available. He actually thought he would receive overtime pay for working over the weekend which I thought was pretty funny. I have worked weekends at least 4 months if not more out of the year for the past 20 years.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
It’s the holidays. Perhaps set aside your hatred, resent, disdain, bitterness and mean spirited comments because really all that negative stuff you people rant about is not good for anybody. Life is what you make it. Jingle Bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
But carry on if you must….

who are you talking too? you think we are living our lives waiting for att to do anything or waiting for att not to have any people to hire.

there will always be people to hire that don't come to this site. they will learn and I hope the people that are smart to come here run far far far far away from cesspool att.

att is managed very badly and will continue to lose customers. is there any segment of att that is growing? they are now number 3 mobile and dropping fast and that is suppose to be their pride and joy. att will still be a joke of a company and will still have churn.

Enjoy your genius ceo.

Join?
Like a bowling league or a club?
It's a job.
Nothing more.
Not a team. You "joined" nothing.
You work, they pay.
Pretty simple.
Jeez....

Money is money. Work for yourself. Build your skills. DO NOT SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE! Pretend to be a team player, but keep yourself invaluable by having skills and knowledge that no one else possesses. Don't buy the BS to share everything you know to "help" the team... Once you become the most expensive guy in compensation terms you, yes you, become a target for downsizing. The company always wants new grads because they are cheap labor. Protect yourself. But watch your appearances, you must appear to be team player. Play the game. Win for yourself.

I came across from Cingular Wireless when the Deathstar brought CW back in house. Integrating into our AT&T group was supposed to be seemless. Bulls**t on that one.
We were treated like sh*t by every T employee that was a member of the group from day 1.
Then I moved departments thinking things would be better. It was considerably worse.
I’m kicking myself wondering why I have stayed at this dumpster fire of a company.
Employees are treated like sh*t. Phucking inept management at every level. Horrible merit raises if you can call them merit raises. Bonuses are continually jacked with. HR is a cesspool of worthless egomaniacs so thoroughly convinced of their own self importance it’s criminal ( just ask them how important they are), a sociopath for a CEO, outdated technology, horrible business practices with store salesmen lying through their teeth to make a sale, worthless training, no phucking chance of career advancement, etc .
Why would anyone right out of college want to work here?!

They paid me $47 an hour. That’s why I joined.

Just because you are disgruntled, doesn't mean others are too.

Because they are clueless. Very few, if any, will last more than 3 years.

For the same reason I married my ex-wife: From the outside it appeared to be the best option I had at the time, not realizing what a dead end it would turn out to be.

Previous poster is right, new grads are full of enthusiasm and ideas, but they will run right into the buzzsaw of complacency and antiquated systems and practices. T is a vastly different work culture to a FaNG or startup, you need to check your can do attitude at the door, and just deal with the bureaucratic and political nature of the organization and collect your pay.. Theres some divisions at T that are progressive, but they are the exception.

No problem getting H1B from India to replace the US Based employees that the Stink screwed over. Unlimited supply of H1B from Bidumb.

T is actually the perfect job for new grads when stateside positions are available. New grads are often highly motivated. They are also willing to look at systems and problems with a fresh set of eyes rather than T lifers who are often complacent with outdated skills. As currently run, T can also provide some ‘worst case’ scenarios of how a company should run. This will help to provide a healthy perspective for future employment opportunities.
