Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Manager/ employee communication

I haven’t had a good communication with my manager right from the start. Sometimes I have a feeling that this person wants me to fail at whatever I'm doing, that's how I would briefly describe our relationship. I have tried in every way to fix the communication, but it doesn’t work. He just doesn't know how to communicate effectively. In my case, that will be one of the main reasons will I will probably leave very soon. I hope you have a better communication with your manager?

Another bi-----g type post unrelated to layoffs.... the topic monitor is correct. So sick and tired of all these bitchers, moaners, complainers, and disgruntled employees. Hate the company? Hit the road jack!

I’ve got good relationships with my management because I deliver then often I relate to them on personally leaves and often politically. If you can’t relate to your manager personally don’t fret. Not all relationships can be personal. But all relationships should be built on respect for one another and delivery. Deliver in your work and personal relationship will come because they will value your performance and delivery. Don’t look to your manager for validation, deliver results and validation and appreciation will come. Value yourself, give respect and others will see your value and value your contribution.

Here's my take on "communication" between employee and manager at AT&T.
IT SUCKS!
I came to AT&T thru Cingular Wireless. Cingular Wireless had good managers that actually listened to their employees and gave a sh*t about them and their career growth. I had good relationships with all my CW managers.
Deathstar AT&T brings Cingular Wireless back in house and we were treated with contempt and disdain by AT&T employees. They hated us. We were treated like sh*t simply because we were CW employees and didn't "belong" there. What these bigots failed to understand was Wireless was keeping AT&T afloat. EVERY single manager I have had a T has been , save for 1, been horrible! Mindless, clueless pawns who couldn't be bothered trying to understand and learn about the work I did in their group. How can you manage something you don't know anything about and refuse to understand?
The mistake I made was staying thinking things would improve. It hasn't and will not. EVER.

Some of the questions that are the main topic are answered in a negative, sarcastic troll like behavior. Like the 2 dopes that repeated the phrase, stay on topic. I been on this forum for a few years now. I believe we can learn from truthful and honest answers without the super sarcasm. So it's not always about layoffs. Big deal. It's nice to have a inside scoop!

Maybe move internally first. I would try to cover communicate with your manager, weekly reports from you to him.

Over the years you will have good managers and not so good managers. Some you get along great and some not so much. If you like the job just stick it out. You won’t be working together forever. Learning to work effectively with difficult people is a valuable skill. Use this time to gain that experience.

Apparently using Quantum to schedule your 1:1 should help.

What in the world does your issue have to do with LAYOFFS? Take your concern to HR or some other site. Stay on topic, please!

What you describe sounds neither healthy nor conducive to your long-term career success and happiness with this manager. Thing is, everyone has their own style. Some managers don't fit well with some employees and vice-versa. If it's not your idea of the perfect fit, then it may be time to look elsewhere, yeah.

Also, yeah, he may just be a bad manager. Nothing much a new person can do about that though. Just be sure to give your feedback if given the opportunity. Lack of appropriate feedback from peers and direct reports is how they stay in their positions.

Why do you talk to them?
Why do you care? They don't.
Just answer their questions, follow their directives (all by email), and fly low.
Managers come and go. I had over 20 1st lines in 42 years.
Smile and wave.
No offense, but your post sounds pathetic.
