Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Why are you still at Ford?

As somebody who left a year ago and is ten times happier than when I worked there, it's shocking to see so many people accept the situation that makes them miserable without even trying to change it. People, the pay is much, much better elsewhere. Don't even get me started on the culture and work environment. Do yourself a favor and start looking.

I can earn more money in other companies. I may have better coworkers or company culture. At Ford, as a contractor, I am limited to 40 hours a week. That's priceless! I have time for my family and myself. Past are the days I was slaving on to make money.

Lets agree on one thing. You worry about YOUR job, and I will worry about mine.

I appreciate doing what you have to do to make money, but this...

"That is all you need to milk this company for a long long time :)."

... is why Toyota, Tesla, VW, and even Hyundai are embarassing Ford in so many ways. Ford is getting is clock cleaned by once little Hyundai, and they want to compete with Google and Apple in the data space? Not with the current management.

Why are they shipping jobs to Mexico and other LCC's you ask, while hiring a bunch of young bucks hand over fist? I think KR more than made the Company's intensions very clear in her discovered 2019 emails, directing decision makers to retain the young while targeting the old. Off shoring work against swelling headcount numbers has been a practice for some time, but they now have to go a different route versus follow on SRD's targeting those 40+. There will be something in the works for those 40+ be it unrealistic workloads (constructive), unrealistic expectations (also constructive), unreasonable travel expectations to home base (for those no longer living in Dearborn), etc. They could further freeze the pension but my guess is that they'll do the above in conjunction with letting higher interest rates influence employee retirement decisions- may or may not offer another package. KR's directive is still in full force but they'll just be smarter now in how they execute it.

To OP - I dont know about pay outside of Ford being, and I quote you - "much much better" compared to other OEMs in the area. Suppliers? May be you have a point. In fact, pay is the ONLY good thing about this id__tic company.

Why I am staying? Tis because my husband has a great job in the area - and - call me names if you want, but I do almost nothing for a good pay so why leave.

  1. I say yes to all assignments (remember, at Ford saying yes is more important than actually finishing the assignment. If you say no, and logically/technically explain why it cannot be done in a timeframe, then you are a bad bad person),
  2. Then I make smart/witty/intellectual replies to atleast one email a day or on a call.

And thats it. That is all you need to milk this company for a long long time :).
Call me what you want but that is what I AM going to do in my last 10 years before retirement.

Not all areas were offered a package. If they were, the number of takers would have gone up. After interest rates go up next year, there will be plenty of people retiring before the end of 2022.

I understand why those who do not want to look for another job would stick it out, even if they are unhappy, but if you 'have enough time with pension" and say you will pull the trigger on a package, why didn't you take the package?

Tta you can tell you are management person . The troops don't need people like your kind. But leaders something your kind clearly lack. When you have more than one vehicle line making more money than f series then maybe we will call you a car or product guy. 90+% of profits still come from one platform. So until that changes you are not a leader but a legend in your own mind

@ohk+1eoS7mD6 so correct. Also, if Ford are so over headcount, why do they continue to hire in the U.S.? They give the excuse they need new skills. That is the biggest lie ever. Nearly all the 'new jobs' are just rehashed of the old/ current with buzzwords added. Just a ruse to keep and push out current employees.

I'm very lazy with a dash of stupid.

Next question.

I have asked coworkers this same question over the years
Three basic answers

  • fear, Ford is their first and only professional job- they are afraid to try to leave
  • pension
  • lack of transportable skills, they had allowed themselves to become only valuable to Ford

The pension will soon not be a factor as Ford pushes those with a pension out the door.

One coworker wanted to leave for 20 of his 35 years but was fearful of learning how to write a resume and interviewing. When he was pushed out the door Right Management helped him overcome that fear. He told me he regretted not jumping earlier.

If you are sticking around waiting for a package, why didn't you take the one offered a few months ago? If you want to go, then go.

I have enough time with pension. So, if they offer a package, I will pull the trigger. Going lump sum.
Not bitter. Met some good people at Ford that is the sad part to leave.
I have not seen the morale so low since the late 2000's. There is no trust with upper management. Do not believe anything coming out of Farley or Billy mouth. So next round I will turn in the paperwork. Time to move on with my life.
I have no idea where the company is going? But tired of the lying. If NA is over headcount, then why in he-l are they sending work south of the border to Mexico and Brazil? This is where I have an issue with senior management. A lot of people this is their lively hood. I hope for their sake they make it to their 30yr or 55 years of age mark.
So, if Jim you read this post. Tell the troops what the real vision is and maybe you will have a much higher take rate for VSSP Packages. Then and only then will you gain back some trust.
