Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Thoughts on Eagan Campus

I was curious what the folks here think about the recent announcement that they are exploring all opportunities regarding the campus in Eagan. Moving, staying, leasing, adding on, whatever.

I am really interested in how this translates to working on site vs remotely. Clearly they want to not waste money but preserve the “culture”. Or whatever that means.

Likely will sell the Eagan buildings and move printing to Mexico.

About 10 years ago TR execs in Eagan were quoted in local press saying that they had investigated offshoring editorial jobs but it wasn’t feasible at that time.

Eagan will close. Remaining editors will be WFH.

@3rxw+1eo7LCXe you are correct, TR isn't outsourcing editorial jobs. They're automating it, notwithstanding.

They can’t outsource editorial jobs, you fear mongers. US based law firms and government agencies won’t pay for legal information produced overseas. Yeesh.

What’s DC exit? My friend who thought moving to Eagan would save her career was let go recently. That campus is def not safe.

Once DC Exit is done, MSP will be four people in a strip mall wrangling contractors.

Just the fact that they kept repeating that they are committed to the MSP area to me means that they’re not committed, that they’ll offer remote work to those they want to keep, and use this as an excuse not to give longtime employees the severance they deserve. Just my opinion

@hpa+1eo7LCXe they're committed to cashing out on that real estate portfolio.

But but but but. They said they were committed to the MSP area. They couldn’t possibly have lied could they.

It'll be leased or subleased. Most of the jobs in U.S. locations will be no more in a few years. Anything not outsourced will be based in U.K. or Toronto.

I can't see them concerned about preserving culture when jobs are being offshored. It's another bit of news to remind us that we need to be either getting ready to retire or finding our next jobs.
