Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM Fired Linux Open Source Developer

Still remember the guy in this news? https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=IBM-Employee-100p-Time.
He was fired by IBM early December.

Here's what I know: Shortly after IBM clarified the stance publicly (https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=IBM-Open-Source-Leisure-Work), his manager moved him to the testing team, disallowed him to send any vnic patches. He filed an official complaint to the HR department but didn't get support either. In September he told me he received a warning letter, charging him being disruptive to the team and demeaning towards his manager. He said he would continue arguing about that. He would not sign this letter because none of these was true. I think if he signed it, it's very possible that he would have been terminated way earlier.

Then he told me his manager started to give him poor reviews about his performance, which was not a surprise to me. He got assigned a new project in October, with a lot of work to be finished in 4 weeks. I don't think that schedule was reasonable even for a developer who had already been working on that project for a couple years.

Just a few days ago, he told me his account was suddenly locked and he lost all connection to his email and VPN, he said he did not get any written notice about the termination.

I am a member of IBM Linux Technology Center. We were not allowed to discuss this incident starting from April. I hoped the guy would do well in IBM, but unfortunately we lost him. I am not silent anymore.

I'm sure he would have no problem finding employment elsewhere.

Generally, company policies state that people should not be using their company emails in outside work projects off hours as that poses a liability to the company. He didn't do anything wrong unless there are other infractions he committed but not mentioned.

Look at the last sentence: https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/CAOhMmr6S2gZX9RSTVRhx-qS7QdeB4QAGCAVf3AyxpkP5ndOhAQ@mail.gmail.com/ , he said he was not allowed to give comment/reviews/critics except for a reviewed-by/acked-by. Is this the "IBM way" to contribute to the open source community?

He is better off working somewhere else where his talent will be appreciated. IBM is a f u c k i n g dying company anyway. I would say IBM did him a favor when it fired him.
