I start in IT soon and this forum has me nervous I made the wrong choice

The last post sounds like another hill billy fu-k that’s upset his sister wouldn’t let him put it in her a-s before bed.
The datacenter infrastructure is the biggest POS you'll find for a "tech" company. They don't even carry maintenance on their core datacenter switching gear. One time a line card blew on a Cisco switch, and the switch was so old and not under maintenance, they had to look at gray market or even ebay to find a replacement. They've ticked Cisco off so much that Cisco won't float them loaners or otherwise work with them.
Their IT management is a sick joke. You can't find someplace (anyplace) else to work tech. Don't waste part of your life that you'll never get back.

It is actually a great place to work - the responses you got above are likely from bitter old men who are at the tail end of their careers and have 0 skills left.

You made a bad decision. Do not waste time learning their ways just use their internet to find a real job.

It was unstable at best and seemed like there would be a layoff any moment. Working here was a dead end, no advancement opportunities, negative annual raises due to inflation.
Yes. It really IS that bad. Expect to see the bottom 10% cut each year. Forced ranking at the title level. You in a team of all top notch professionals? Too bad for you - one of you has got to go. It's a horrible and demoralizing culture.
It is that bad.
The corporation exists to acquire other companies, cut their costs, and then bleed dry the business they just acquired for cash flow.
And the CIO is in over his head.
