Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Are we really underpaid compared to other big tech companies?

Damn this isn't a layoff post. But I'm curious, anybody have hard numbers on what we're making vs someone at another company in a like for like role?

HR doesn't publish the salary range at various levels and if you ask them, as I have, they will tell you that they're not allowed to give out this information. Only management level is privy to this information. First place I've ever been to that doesn't publish that information for all to see. That should tell you something.

with 300K in pre-sales I feel that it's good enough to stay here a bit longer

AWS/Facebook - check the small print - it's 175K+RSU every year - means your investment is where company wants it to be .. and not real money but real tax to pay.

Can you be more specific about before and after salary figures, including salary base, role (title), tenure, location, etc as well as same info for new job? Those factors play a HUGE role (no pun intended).

Dell's brand name and massive scale allows them to pay less than median salary in most markets. 80 to 90% of local market rates is not unusual for a starting salary, and the owner hates employee equity so much that employee stock purchase plans are non existing and RSUs are a joke and available only to Director +

Original Post: You all sound like you had no idea what you should have been paid and sucked at salary negotiation.

Comment on post: Is that the official Dell's answer to our predicament or you are just some bored as----e?

Response: No that is the reality. To get where you want with salary you will need to get a new job somewhere else. Only way to course correct.

most companies have salary bands for their positions and what you want may not be feasible in that role.

You bet you are, Dell/EMC screwed me big time on salary. I'm now 95K higher per year than at the hellhole known as Dell.

the same with me. 5 years after EMC which turned to DELL at the time I left I am also about 100K higher than my days at EMC

ya in California where the cost of living is much higher so it's all relative. A developer's salary at Dell is much higher than the same position at Fidelity or CVS and companies that are not Google or Amazon or Facebook Those companies are also losing talent to Amazon, Google, Facebook.

I just left Dell for a position at a competitor that pays 40% more for doing a small fraction of the workload and hours… I’m now able to make what Dell pays their directors but as an individual contributor. So I’m gonna go with yes, Dell both underpays and overworks.

FACT: an engineer with more than 15 years of experience in NVIDIA and Facebook gets more than $500K an year. This is almost 4 times more than what he or she would get at DELL.
