I see returning to a bad company like returning to a bad relationship - it can't work. However, I am interested in what the return looks like from the perspective of those who have been invited to return and who have agreed to it. Are you feeling better or much worse after you came back than before you left here for the first time?

it's terrible, you get to see a bunch of id--ts you worked with in prior years still working padding their pension, that are still doing nothing, and wonder why they got the golden ticket and you got the shaft.

This is actually the best comment I've seen on here in a long time! This is one of the main reasons T is in the condition it is.

At the end of the day, it’s a matter of options. Many of those being hired back didn’t have any. I know of a few personally. If T wasn’t so desperate, maybe they would stop and question why this person they’re hiring back hadn’t found gainful employment in the 2 years since they were laid off.

Left on my own worked for much better companies that are well managed. I would advise working for another company and you will see how badly att cesspool is ran and going back would never enter your mind.
Went back after a few years only to see the "woke" at&t is nothing like the AT&T i left...its a sh-t show..run, run fast...

Having to repay a severance is a non starter. period.
was hired back many years ago. When HR called and asked why my pay was so much more than what they were paying me originally, the hiring manager replied. "Well, if you didnt want to have to pay more, then you should have never let her go to begin with. Thats the cost for her to leave her current employer to come back to ATT. "Also bridged time as part of the comeback.
After surplus, I was told I would need to repay severance pay as I was not unemployed when I returned to work. Severance overlapped employment. Asking about the time I was unemployed and paid rent, food, ...; that was what I gave up to return. Verify with HR the cost to be rehired or check the papers you signed when you were surplused. Different rules if not surplus.
I did not return. No guarantee I would not be cut a week later.

I retired after 37 years. Invited back as contractor. Team lead was a real jerk. I left in less than a year. Invited back again by a different director. Great experience though contract ended in about 6 months. Invited back 3 more times , I declined each time. Money was great, but kinda got used to retirement with no deadlines or politics to play. Now I'm into woodworking and traveling.
One of the main problems with T is the policy of bringing back former employees. New ideas and fresh sets of eyes are needed…not legacy, outdated skills.
I would never come back to this place. But in my garage, after a pleasant, long vacation it is the worst feeling in the world to have to come back to work here. I assume being separated from this place and then brought back to work at this clusterfvck would be very depressing. The longer you are away, the more you see what a toxic work environment at&t really is.
