People who work in sales think there is no worse department. If you talk to people who do customer service here, from their perspective they have it worse than anyone else.
I would say that at ATT no one is happy.
Is there any department that is healthy and fine to work there?

I think HR is on here.
I'll be every member of the Flight Operations team is happy.
It’s a fallacy to believe that everyone at ATT is unhappy and no one enjoys their position. Perhaps you’ve not found the right spot for your skills, ability, and goals. It’s a big company with lots of opportunities if you have the right skills. If you’re mobile and don’t mind relocating, that might open many doors for some folks. Don’t listen to those who post here with nothing but criticism, resentment and ill will. They wouldn’t work in a pie factory without whining.
"...The worst came from the legacy Cingular organization."
I'm from the Cingular side. It's funny how perspective is. I remember the time of the acquisition well. What I saw on the other side was a lot of distrust and in some cases outright animosity...and I don't think that's completely abnormal viewing things from the acquiring company. Many AWS folks were resentful that things were changing in their day to day. There were no rules around expenses for managers in place at AWS. Lunch pretty much every single day was expensed. Lavish get togethers and parties. We had to put a stop to all of that stuff, and it didn't go over well... just fostered more resentment. That said, some of the managers were very competent and good folks. Some weren't. Kinda like anywhere else.
The c-suite is smiling all the way to the bank and BMW dealership!!
So much depends on to whom you report. In 23+ years I have had many great managers in otherwise cr---y organizations. They were transparent and did their best to protect their people. I have also had a couple of terrible managers who didn't care about anyone but themselves. I came up through the legacy ATT Wireless organization when it was originally part of ATT and my good managers have by and large also come up through the legacy ATT Wireless organizations. The worst came from the legacy Cingular organization.
The top echelon of this train wreck of a telecommunications company are the AT&T country club. They don't actually do much of value for the shareholders or customers of this company. All their job requires is for them to kiss up to the levels above them and give plenty of meetings to promote their brand.
The fact that they are slowly destroying this company as they reward themselves with excessive bonuses that have no relation to their accomplishments doesn't even concern them.
Within the upper crust, T is more of a social club than "work" as such.
So long as they can keep getting theirs, and keep the riffraff from causing too much trouble, that's all that matters.
I don't know what you're all so bitter about. I got paid thirty million dollars last year and I still don't know what it is I actually do on a daily basis. All my VPs tell me every day what a leadership legend I am and what a fantastic job I do running this company so I must be doing something right. Right?
Your not happy so that must mean no one is happy.
The people who are happy are 4th lines and above. I would also believe there are some good departments within the company. However, I would bet most departments are overworked, not respected, and underpaid.
