BN has no use for a manager who doesn’t swallow the kool aid.

I see the sales receipts daily and it's not good. I am in the process of looking for a much more stable job and company. Expect all big stores to close, there is no possible way the company can afford to keep them open. The very small stores might stay open but location will be everything. But from my view, it's very grim.

Pretty much every retailer has closed some stores in the last several years . The result of on line shopping growth . And many retailers were overstored to begin with , as everyone with a brain knows.
I was in two separate Barnes& Noble stores during the Holiday shopping season. They were both well stocked with books and gifts . I had help from friendly and helpful employees. I found everything I was looking for and more.
Overall good experiences. I spent a lot of money . And I’ll probably go back soon.
This company isn’t going anywhere in the short term . They are okay .
A customer.

There was a huge fight this week when the store manager yelled, accusing employees of hanging around the registers doing nothing. One long term employee quit right then and there. This is the kind of management and attitude that shuts down companies.
RIP B&N

You say the same thing every year. Every month. You are looking pathetic. Move on

Another 2 people quit at our store. It just keeps getting worse and worse. I can't wait to get out of this awful place. We all hate it.

I'm one of about 10 people who recently deserted this very poorly managed company. So glad I did, it hasn't been a pleasant or good place to work in years. There are many better companies out there! I pity those who stay to see the doors locked for the last time.

Yes. I’m a “former”
Yes,I’m glad that after being laid off , I found a better job with a much better company.
Yes, this is the fourth Christmas that the money I used to spend at BN for Christmas ($400 in Girt cards. $100 for my 2 Brothers & their wives) I’ve spent buying Amazon gift cards.

We’ve been hearing for years “corporate says it’s over”!and we’re STILL HERE. If you left or were laid off, stop wishing ill on us .

No one’s wishing “ill “ on you. If you don’t have enough self esteem to leave a bad company you deserve what will happen.

Considering so many from the corporate office quit or were forced out, and sales in are in the dumper, I'd say everyone is on borrowed time. When you can't pay your rent, ya got a big problem!

I've been tracking sales here and they are really disappointing with only 10 days to go. Our store manager confided that she thinks this is it for us. I can tell all the employees know too.

The flagship store at 18th & 5th was a Barnes and Noble College store, not trade company purchased by Daunt.

Different company, similar industry pressures.

They're all closing fast. I just learned the Peabody, MA store is now closing. I think because of bad management.

Back in 2006, there were roughly 18 Barnes stores in NYC alone. After the 1st of the year (2022), there will be only six.

Stores that have closed...Citigroup, 86th and Lex, two separate stores around 86th street that merged into 86th and Lex, Astor Place, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, 18th and 5th (flagship store), Lincoln Center, Bayside, Forest Hills, and the Bronx. Tribeca will close at the end of the year.
