Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Should I seek employment with NOV?

From what I am reading, the cons far outweigh the pros. What is your opinion?

Worked for NOV over 17 years. Have made more progress in the 6 months I've worked for a new company than I ever did at NOV. Was never a lazy employee like some. DON'T DO IT. GO ELSEWHERE

I spent 19 years with the Brandt side to be laid off in 2020.. use them for now but do not stay long. I am much happier now and make a little more. They do not care about employees and will use you, so use them. Not a great place to work if you're looking for a place to grow.

You will never get promoted and you might get a 3% raise after 5 years only if you are lucky. Too many unnecessary and unqualified managers and a lot of micromanagement.

Your call. Goodluck!!!!

In all honesty and without all the hyperbole by a lot of people here, NOV is very similar to a lot of other situations. It is not run particularly well and the management team is toxic but so are a lot of other organizations. If you get a job that pays more than what you are now, take the money. If you are going to NOV to make a career and lifelong partnership, you are dreaming. They will use you, so use them. Get the training, get paid and pad your resume if the situation is better.

If you are not one of the good ol boys, you do not have a chance. Go elsewhere.

100% no, don’t do it.

As someone else said if you can get more money out of NOV and still look to move to a more professional company and this is your plan then maybe it’s OK but don’t make NOV a long term career path as you will get disappointed

If your leaving your current job due to the fact your management skills are fu----g useless then you will fit in at NOV

Can you proudly stab others in the back? You may be a fit.

You have to ask yourself some questions to understand your “fit”.. can you kiss up well? Do you have a Segway? How do you look in nursing shoes? Do you mind not having a voice? You might be a great fit. Who knows. Can you gossip?

I was stuck in a lower level position for years, then I left. Don’t hire on with NOV unless you have run out of all other options.

If it’s an improvement over your current situation, take their money and continue looking… def not a place to build a career or make a lateral move into.
