Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Where is Ford in the electric vehicle space?

After a series of discussions with Rivian, Ford's leadership indicated that it would be more beneficial to pursue its own path to develop electric vehicles rather than co-develop with Rivian.
Ford's management is confident that it can execute on its goal to be a leader in the electric vehicle space on its own and has been making several strategic moves to get there. For example, at the end of 2021, Ford announced forming a jo--t venture with SK Innovation, a South Korean battery maker.

I wonder if management has a firm basis to think that Ford can be a leader in the electric vehicle space?

The reality is that Ford ICE customers are the ones most likely to buy Mach-Es. And with the cost of the vehicle (compared to similar ICE vehicles) plus the start-up costs of installing a home charging capability (unless you want to charge it for what seems like forever at 120V!), most just aren't going to buy it.

Yes it has received good reviews. But rarely does that translate into real sales considering the headwinds against it. And range, for most people, is still a concern.

Reality check time. In January 2022 Ford sold approximately 13,700 EVs, of which 2,370 were Mach-e. We used to cancel vehicles that sold such low volume.

NIO sold 9,652 EVs in January, so a startup sold only 30% fewer EVs than Ford.

Tesla (say their name, Joe Biden) is selling over 100,000 EVs per month. How do we close that gap?

Ford executives need to stop believing all the press releases they write about themselves.

10 years ago the demand for EVs was ~ 2% . . . Fast forward to 2021 and the demand has skyrocketed to a whopping 2.7 % !! Ford is banking on the regime to force everyone into govt. controlled electric pods. Just as ol' Henry received the iron cross from Adolf, so might Billy receive the 'golden star' from China. Big Biz adored Adolf and Uncle Joe (at the beginning of WWII anyhow) and admired them for their 'efficiency' just as they now adore the wonderful workings of the CCP controlled USSA.

What a bunch of maroons.
Tesla has done some pretty amazing stuff.
But their quality is stuff.
Elon's thing is pushing the envelope.
Long term he is more interested in SpaceX.
If Ford recognizes their limitations and executes properly they can do quite well.
The Lightning and electric Transit will be the true measure.
We shall see.
But once again, what a bunch of maroons.

Ford is lightning years behind Tesla in EVs. Tesla has cache and China customers, Ford has constant recalls. Ford is not and never will be a leader in EVss.

I'm really afraid to get behind the wheel of a Ford. Might as well convert it to an electric coffin on wheels and at least save on funeral costs. No need to detach steering wheel as I believe that should easily slide off on its own along with the parking brake.

Ford can't even build an old school ICE vehicle without defects, recalls, etc. How in the world do they think they will be a leader in the EV space?
