Getting word that the axe has fallen on some of our team. Of course, NOBODY in upper management has the stones to publicly address any of it.
Hearing field operations and OSP so far, but it's all through the grapevine.

@former EarthLink. I’ve never seen staff reductions driven from the staff manager level or below. so yeah it was decided from the top down.
It wasn’t all random. I know 2 who were chosen because their positions/pay weren’t going to fit the pod structure. I know another 2 that were performance driven.
To say that managers had no input is wrong. They are instructed how to respond and often required to sign nda’s for such things.
Just because you think the guy/girl next to you is a solid contributor - doesn’t mean they were to their supervisor.
In the bad performance cases, no further hiring options were offered. In the ‘doesn’t fit further need’ spot where the person was actually really good, they were given options. Everyone was offered severance pay - even the ones that deserved to be fired.
If you didn’t get offered another pos. Be happy. Job market is in your favor and you got severance. Get some unemployment benes, enjoy a small break, and watch you will likely get a better paying job where you can perform mediocrely without fear. Lol seriously - no better time than right now for job searching.
I was told in so many words that the layoffs were driven by cost savings from director and above. Looking around at the decisions they just threw a dart at the board to make. No real rhyme or reason as to who they chose. Post merger I know I wasn't at at same rate as my WIN counterparts.
Windstream thinks they can do more with less..all this does is drive the remaining employees into the ground. People are working 60-70 hours a week with on call and after hours already. This last one may cause an exodus of people who were already stretched too thin. They seem to be actively trying to ruin the customer support by combining network and customer facing techs..there is some serious disconnect between upper management and what actually goes on in the field. But that's ok..let's get rid of the best employees and force the ones who are left to do everything. We've become a company that does many things but isn't good at anything due to the draining of talent. Even Kinetic is terrible as we cannot provide decent support. This has become a company run by people who have no idea how to supply a quality product. I'm sorry Mr. Hedge Fund, but you're doing it wrong. No one will by a company from you that sucks. The bottom line isn't improved by getting rid of good people. It's improved by investing in people..and Windstream is doing the opposite.
@Losestream
Just submitted investor inquiry to Elliot Management. It stated performance will never get better if management is never part of workforce reduction.
I would suggest other also do this maybe the next round will have more at the top taking the chop.
Learned of layoffs and of shutting door on a vendor with no replacement given. The network reminds me of Johnny Cash’s “one piece at a time”….. The workers keep getting cut so they can finish their world class upside down pyramid. Think I might email Elliott and see what happens next layoff. Much regards for those who got cut but shouldn’t expect anything less if you work for Windstream.
Seriously y'all are being to hard on TT. He's traveling the world promoting the software powerhouse at your expense. If his travel expenses get to high he will just lay another 100 off. The man has to put food on the table and food in the bowl for Max
&& of course management does NOT offer any other position anywhere.
That would 100% defeat the whole purpose of the cut. Sorry about your luck, but it happens to the best of us. A cut is a clean cut. Period.
The managers needed to find money someplace to fund thier bonuses. Good times for them and more work for others. Heard this discussed several times by the more honest low level managers. Remember its not a prison and is also not a good place to work.
I have been actively applying for positions elsewhere. More than two decades at this company, while moving up in different positions of course, and I have seen tons of layoffs happen. Many times it makes no sense on who they layoff. It’s like they just do a lottery and pluck whoever. A fiber engineer was one of them I heard, and FE is already so understaffed as it is. This company is horrible at properly providing the head count needed in departments in order to be as successful as the company wants to be.
Good luck to those that were chosen this round.
&& of course management does NOT offer any other position anywhere. Layoff Date 2-3. Not even 2 weeks Notice. Good going Windstream. over 5+ years and just being told your job isn't needed anymore. Your team was sh-t anyway.
yeah. I just heard myself. Under the radar layoffs.
I left months ago and so glad I did. Went to another CLEC.
The 2 I know of that were let go were in different departments. Escalations and Repair. Both were ELNK people.
Good luck to everyone out there. I mean that.
