If I was still there, I'd be looking at the wireless side of the house, technician jobs.

I think the best path to advancement is to hire on at a higher level than your previous company, or hire on with your next company at a higher level than you are now at this company.

The quota system is rampant and the more boxes you can check the better but the fact is, there is about a 90-95 percent chance you will leave at the same level that you arrived.

These days, changing companies is the best way to advance.

The homonym comment…The fact is most people posting here consistently use poor grammar and punctuation. The real truth is that most Americans read little or less than previous generations, are less educated, but use social media as their source of information and ‘knowledge’. As me how I know, not no, that.

“ Please name one Ivy League Exec at T? I am one and I also new many other colleagues who were also and all outsourced. Maybe I should ask what is your definition of an Ivy League University?”

I wonder how someone makes it through an Ivy League program without a decent grasp of homonyms and other basic grammar principles.

Your attitude will make the biggest difference. Be willing to try new things and let people know you're interested in moving up. I have been with AT&T for 11 years now. I started as a prem tech and I just got promoted to a level 2 manager. Take advantage of what the company offers. They paid for me to complete my MBA. Education doesn't guarantee anything, but it will help you stand out. Being willing to move would definitely help you move up faster, but it's not an absolute requirement - especially with all the work from home opportunities now.

With all their failures HR should have many openings soon if they aren't outsourced first.

Man, ignore the noise and hot air these people blow....they always say the same thing....blah, blah, blah....and throw in some comments about 'upper management, Ratty, cesspool, Stinky, India, Whitacre's daughter'..... they're old and tired and have zero game. They should have been led out to pasture a long time ago.... Their comments might be entertaining if material wasn't so old.....and lame. I read a lot of jealousy in these crazy comments....LOL
Yeah, the company does have some good opportunities for advancement. The career path comment and matching your skills is a good idea. Try looking for a mentor ... especially if you're on the management level...good mentors will keep you informed of what's happening and where there are opportunities.....
Good luck, man or woman!

Well you need to collaborate, think outside the box.
Be agile, celebrate diversity. Shift. Pivot.
Kiss @$$.
Work long hours for free and then say "TY sir!!! May I work some more?"
Get lots of Nano degrees or whatever they're called.
Spend time on all AT&Ts social media sites and decry your whiteness as a weakness.
Have sleepless nights thinking of your aspirations!
Alienate your family, friends.
Ruin your mental and physical health.
That will prove to them what a great employee you are!!!
They'll still laugh when the shatcan you, but not as much.

Or, stop caring and try to run them out of $$$$.
THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU.

The best advancement path is to have gone to an ivy league college with a senior leader or go to the same church as them. The other path to advancement is to move to India and take service or IT calls.

Otherwise run. You have a better chance of advancement at McDonalds.

If you are in IT and below 30 just run.

Great question. It really demands on what you have to offer….meaning skills, education, background, work history and a multitude of other attributes. It’s also worth noting that if you have the flexibility to relocate to other parts of the country, that also is valuable. It is an individual thing…meaning you have to figure out what you can offer now, as well as what skills you can acquire to make you more ‘valuable’. I’d also say this is an excellent time to look at all the requirements listed in Career Path for jobs that sound like a ‘good fit’, then figure out what you need to do to match those requirements.
This approach might not be for everyone, but it sure beats complaining about how much you hate your job, the company….etc. I’ve made several moves using this approach, so it does work for some of us….

No place is safe even if they start an org like tech dev att mismanages it and basically sux all the life and fun out it and then just throw their hands up and say let’s just outsource it. Guess that is what happens when’s you have lawyers and accountants and economic majors making technical decisions.
This is the number one reason why att is in the shape they are in and if you point this out you are labeled as a trouble maker. Att is a lot like this site they censor facts and truth.

It’s all lip service, no action! I did all of my own training and to date haven’t had any company provided training in 12 years. Some of the newbies that were hired can’t even tell a switch from a router. It’s really a sad state of affairs!

You have an excellent shot at advancement if you're a woman, a minority, or give good handys.

Unless you are related or perhaps belong to the same caste as upper management there is no career advancement.
