Thread regarding IBM layoffs

what's the highest ibm salary that you know?

Must have seen someone have that salary.

Just trying to assess how high can ibm pay compared to other tech companies.
There's not much data online.

I know b9 in Austin can be 160-200k.

Can ibm pay 350k for b9 in san jose? Or do i need to be b10?

Being a B10 at ibm seems scary.

Just saw a B9 offer within Consulting iX for $300K total walk out the door, think the split was $265 base $35 sign on. Tier 1 city but not SF or NY. I was told the candidate is a Manager at Big 4. Years ago we hired a slew of ex Deloitte partners and a friend in finance at the time told me we matched their expected comp in cash rather than incentive ($1-2M is incentive for a Y3 Partner at these firms for reference). IBM is throwing money at new hires and has been doing this for a while. They want people like you and me who stay at IBM to get out.

@1nei+1eDh9fFn can you provide any numbers for b8-10?

I've only heard this for b6&7s, not at senior levels.
For b6 and 7s it's just 20k more, not much difference. Sure it's better than previous years but haven't heard 300k offers at b9s.

Ask anyone interviewing about their pay packs. The offers I’ve seen are unbelievable. Offering people one to two job levels higher than their current employer and giving high five figure sign on payments is incredibly common.

OP, where are you coming up with these crazy salary numbers? Adding in commissions and bonuses? For 2021, NY/HQ based Band 10 salary range was $113,800 minimum to $236,300 maximum.

knew a guy earning over 250k plus sales bonus, but he did work hard, unlike DE (distinguished engineers) whom I knew a few but didn't seem their worth. To me a DE should be the top, running new software direction etc, but most are just talkers. with no substance

IBM absolutely does not pay 350K for anything in San Jose. IBM is barely in San Jose at all. There is a facility at the far south of San Jose - almost Morgan Hill which stinks of chicken manure, and another small ghost town research facility just north of that, on the top of a rattlesnake-infested former mercury mine. The action in Silicon Valley is north/west of San Jose .. and up along the peninsula to San Francisco, and also north up the East Bay to Emeryville. IBM is nowhere near these places, and don't have to compete salary-wise. Of course we get the bottom of the barrel.

Problem is IBM's salary is just base pay most of the time.

Miserable salaries... so many under 100K... who in IT really makes less than 100K no matter years of experience. IBM is definitely not the company to work for!!
