I was a 20+ year high performer at the farm. I loved most of my career. However, the last three years or so we’re just stupid. I could see that it was never going to improve; in fact, things were more than likely going to go downhill.
My last straw was a migration my division went through where selections were made based on zip code lived in rather than performance. My job was safe, but I’d have rather had the severance.
I took my time, got my resume and LinkedIn profile beefed up and found a new job making slightly more than at the farm with slightly better benefits and matching paid time off. That was nearly three years ago. Things are better now for those with some ability. I know because I’m handling some hiring where I am.
If you are unhappy (and all my friends still at the farm seem miserable), take the bull by the horns and get out. Now. Treat it like a part time job. You will be immeasurably happier.
