Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

We work hard so our leaders can make $millions

Last year, 4 Anthem Vice Presidents made over $5 million, and the President and CEO Gail Boudreaux made over $17 million. In the meantime, the median Anthem employee wages have declined the last two years by over $10,000:

2017: $70,867
2018: $72,308
2019: $62,686
2020: $61,544

Gail earned $17,109,952 in 2020. If taking her total pay with benefits and bonuses and applying it to a 40 hour workweek and 8 hour day, Gail earned $65,807.50 per day. Gail earned more in ONE DAY than the median worker at Anthem earned ALL YEAR.

We work very hard in a chaotic environment for a company that is too large to fail, because it would fail if it was a smaller company the way it is run, especially with its awful customer service. We toil in jobs where our low bid purchased systems fail at least once a week and we are told to keep producing more and more with less and less people. We work for one of the largest insurance companies in the world yet our own insurance coverage is awful and gets worse every year. We have massive levels of stress in our jobs every day and yet we get piddly little increases in our pay every year while the pay of our leaders keeps increasing.

That is all we ever hear in my department. Do more with less. That way they can pocket more millions and buy other companies to keep the stock holders happy. Our team is down by 60 percent and they expect those of us that are left to handle the same about of work. And even if we do, we still get threatened with being riffed. There is some sick management at this company.

It’s not conservative politicians. It’s all of them. Politicians ARE the rich. They talk about taxing the rich to get votes, nothing more. News flash: they could change the tax code at any time and without all the hoopla - Congress has the ability. How do “public servants” in government retire with $100M in the bank? This isn’t a right or left issue - it’s ALL career politicians.

Why are two ex BlackRock execs high up in the Biden admin in key financial positions? Why did BlackRock declare climate change as its primary investing strategy in Dec 2020 right after Biden won? And how much money is this admin throwing at climate change? It’s not a coincidence. No different with the right when they’re in power either - the names just change. Making each other and their friends and families rich while we’re thrown scraps.

Reduction in salary may represent the push for youth. Younger workers are cheaper and put up with ego/narcissistic nature of management.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY CHEESY COMMERCIALS........Anthem is rolling in the dough. Every time you earn a dollar, the top brass probably earns a thousand or more. Make no mistake, it is no wonder corporate fat-cats don't like the idea of taxing the rich. They side in with conservative politicos to make certain the bucks keep rolling in and their fat feet stays planted firmly on the heads of the working class.
