Thread regarding IBM layoffs

No more WFH

Word out of Armonk is that once the Digital Health Passports have been verified and validated, EVERYONE will be required to go into the office beginning in 2022. With the spinoff complete and all whom will be shown the door, they have plenty of space to keep within DOH requirements. Announcement mid December

I certainly hope they won't wait for organic attritions and get rid of the non-contributors. There are still a plenty of them.

Understand this, there are a ton of more cuts to be done. And its exponentially cheaper for them if you just leave. The idea from the top from the beginning was to use this in conjunction with the mandate as a lever to get more people to leave on their own. Now that the mandate has been postponed (and will probably get squashed altogether by the SC) This push to get everyone back to a site is going to get moved to the front burner. The heat is on!

Yeah, let’s get more people back on the road… didn’t IBM bragged that it would be carbon neutral by a certain date? I guess that does not include its work force…

This is pathetic!

It’s pathetic how true your statement is. Make people upend their lives for no reason other than using it as an excuse to lay people off.

"What if your team is spread out across the country? OR will there be another co-location initiative?"

Let's not pretend that colocation is about anything except dislocation.

In the last colocation I moved to RTP which meant that instead of my team being spread across ten sites in the US plus the UK, Germany, India and China (plus a couple of remote exemptions for extenuating circumstances)...

...we were in five sites across the US plus Germany, India and China (plus etc. etc.).

On the plus side, I was in the office next door to my manager for the few days each month we both came to the office on the same day.

Our manager actually made an accidental reference to this today on a team call and then tried to back track but we all read thru it. This is real folks!

Can confirm. Layoffs are coming after Kyndryl sets up.
There'll be plenty of space for the few employees left to keep the lights on.

Ibm is going to use this as an excuse to layoff just like collocation thing they did a few years ago.
The quarterly results also ask for it.

These "theories" are soon to become your realities. Doesn't the fact that they seem so ridiculous and boneheaded prove it.
That's my litmus test. When someone tells me IBM is going to do something or go in a certain direction and I immediately think that would be id--tic. They always do it 100%.

If so, then you know this post is fake news.

There’s a really problematic gap between the on the ground reality and what senior management believes is going on . This is due to middle management spending quite literally 100% of their time managing up and no time managing their teams. Too many middle managers working scared and painting a picture instead of communicating openly.

Then what? IBM is going to start doing Scrum in the offices? So, Post-Its all over the walls… what a joke! That clearly shows you where this IBM company is going… very childish!

Colleagues niece recently hired for that too. 96k plus a 20k signing bonus. Not bad for a 24 year old history major who was unemployed for the past two years

@1sfz+1dy4PWi6: Some of the theories on here - like the Agile one - are one reason I still come to this site. I heard that they're going to er--t a 50ft tall statue of AK at each site, and each morning, all employees will be required to pay homage to the image of their new child-king.

I probably shouldn't joke about this, because if our little manchild CEO ever came here are read it, he'd probably think it was a good idea.

Also they are going to double down on Agile. Each site will have a dedicated Agile Director. Teams will be assembled based on job function and tenure. Half your team will be >10 years experience and half <10 and you will be paired up. Mandatory weekly meetings plus biweekly stand ups to report pairings progress. This will be incorporated into Checkpoint and will be 25% - 35% (flm choice) of your overall.

Reason number 56 why I’m glad I left. I could stand the job from home where the toxic levels of politics weren’t felt so directly. But the thought of having to go back into that building and deal with some of the fools I had to tolerate is the stuff of nightmares.

@fru+1dy4PWi6: I prefer to call them Sheeple. Or if you prefer - pro-medical-experiment. they also cant answer simple questions honestly such as the ones posted a couple days ago. If this is "all about science" why did the USPS and illegal immigrants all get exemptions? If this is about science, why are scientific studies showing the uselessness of these "vaccines" for most people and real-life examples of severe adverse reactions being ignored? Answer: Because this isn't about science. It's about politics and controlling the narrative. Heels-up Harris cued us all in to that when she said during the 2020 VP debate that she would never take this vaccine if Trump asked us to.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. AK is an @$$ho-e and a liar. He had talked about the future being a "hybrid" model, and I suppose we all knew he was lying then. Most companies are switching to hybrid or permanent WFH, but not this $h!t company. When the rest of the world takes 2 steps into the future, IBM would rather go backwards in time...yet interestingly, they like to promote themselves as a "green company." Yeah okay.

Fortunately I'm not too far from an office and its an easy commute, but whats the point? Nobody I work with lives in my region. I suppose I'll badge in at 8am and walk out around 10am when all the VPs are taking their 1 hour coffee breaks, then WFH the rest of the day. FU AK, you tiny little man-child.

Thankfully, I left the god-forsaken he-l ho-e that IBM has become a few months ago, so I no longer have to worry about boneheaded directives coming from clueless schmucks in IBM Management! 😏🖕

Almost every big company out there is currently planning a massive push to get all their workers back into the office in January, regardless of what they say publicly. IBM is no different.
