Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Generic Disdain - what can we give positive to say THU Oct 28 to Congress?

Familiar with the general robotic feeling here on this LO board, let us all get Positive for a minute. This site is about people keeping their jobs (or losing them).

This post is about ExxonMobil, not some generic, and about Admiration, not disdain.

The percentage of US employees (sic) with their DVR activated is something we can't yet measure, so have to take it the personal level.
I don't have a DVR, so I'm taking a personal day this Thursday, October 28 to watch the CSPAN Channel. BTW - this CSPAN is a conglomerate channel of cable providers - and not quite as government funded as PBS, y'know.)

The testimony OCT 28 on CSPAN ONE will be an ExxonMobil special, and I think we all can contribute in a small way to keeping our company afloat, or at least right the boat.

Our Main Man, Durwood, will be sitting in a hard wooden chair along an old oaken table with 4 or 5 other O&G bigs (API, Chev, Shell, etc.) trying to explain why ExxonMobil is important. Not only in the past (the topic of the day), but into the future.

If you are a word composer - if you have the perfect combination of charming wit, perfect logic, along with the gift for gab.
What sound-bite would you put in Durwood's mouth when it means the most?

I, me, I can't think of any.

Durwood's statement:

  • In the 40's, our Esso scientists became aware of benzene cancers - and you good people of Congress began regulating that in the '80s.
  • In the 50's, our Esso scientists became aware of ethyl lead toxicity - and you good people of Congress began regulating that in the 90's.
  • In the 80's, our Esso scientists became aware of human-caused climate impacts - and you good people of Congress still have a couple of decades to go with that.
  • Now - in keeping with our longstanding policies regarding Proprietary Science - I have nothing more to say about Carbon Capture feasibility. Call me back in 2040.

If he lies under oath, what are the consequences? If algae is even mentioned, even CCS for that matter, it would be a lie. We do not jave any competetive advantage except for having money to spend on misleading ads.
