Mach E troubles? Discounting already

Look behind the curtain people. Ford says we can’t keep up with new demand but have to offer discounts on our premier EV as market interest wanes. Hang on to your windshield, it’s going to be a rough year for our self proclaimed EV transition.

With incentive spending at an all-time low, it’s pretty difficult to find deals on new vehicles these days. That includes models that are in high demand, like the Ford Mustang Mach-E. As Ford Authority reported last week, unscheduled 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E orders are being pushed back to the 2022 model year, though the automaker is offering affected customers a $750 incentive at the time of purchase or lease, or a $2,000 discount on in-stock vehicles. Now, according to a dealer memo seen by Cars Direct, 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E customers can get a $2,500 discount on the EV crossover in certain markets.

The incentive – officially called Ford Options Bonus Cash – is only available to customers who finance the vehicle through Ford Credit using the Ford Options Plan. This plan is a type of balloon financing that is somewhat like a loan but provides lower monthly payments than a purchase and requires a larger one-time payment at the end of the loan term. Since the Ford Options Plan puts a vehicle in the lessee’s name and not the financing company, this also means that customers are eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, which is otherwise not available to lessees of Mach-E models.

I was renting a vehicle at Hertz yesterday, asked if a Mustang Mach-E was available, and they just laughed.

C'mon man! I love electric cars, and paintings, and corruption, and ICE CREAM AND NAPS AND UNITY.

@1klb+1dtwAzL1: The Mach-E's appearance shouldn't be surprising. It's the love child of a real 2-door Mustang and a Pontiac Aztek, so the fact that it looks somewhat like both of its parents is to be expected.

Another reason I'll never buy another Ford product. Frankly, they don't make anything I even want. Apparently I'm not alone.

It is ugly, and it is not a Mustang if there isn’t a convertible top option. And a roof that flies off spontaneously doesn’t count.

You forgot scarcity of Ford's effective management and leadership. C'mon man.

Illusion of scarcity? There is real scarcity too. Chip shortages, food shortages, and don't forget TP.

Trying to create an illusion of scarcity. Scarcity has been taught in classes at Ford as a way to influence potential customers to consider Ford products.

Delayed, recalled, and orders pushed til 2022. Can’t fool customers. Junk under the frunk and the market sees it for what it is.
