Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Does anyone else despise their manager?

I’m wondering if it’s just me, but I absolutely cannot stand my manager. This individual is such a bully and only cares about getting their “assignments done” and will push all of there direct reports to the brink of a breakdown, as long as they get their stuff done. I feel like I have so much mental distress because of my manager. They also enjoy taking credit for the work that everybody else does. Does anyone else feel like this or am I in the minority?

There is a definite lack of “put people first” in the purchasing department. It’s full of brown nosers and it thoroughly disgusts me. Enough to the point that I’m exploring other opportunities. I’m sick of the mental anguish Ford brings upon us.

@1ycg+1dscLpGh I have found that there are two types of “complainers”

  • the ones who are really optimists at heart and want to make things better. When they have a complaint they also present solutions to the complaint/problem. Sometimes they stop presenting solutions because people aren’t listening.
  • the people who whine and moan about everything, but will never investigate solutions to problems and fix the situation

The second category will never be happy, so you are right they are a drain on morale and productivity.
The first category if given permission and encouragement to solve the problems, they often end up the best employees. Most often the first category just gets frustrated at Ford and finds a better fit where they are allowed to solve problems.
Just my experience.

With the way things are going on with "CONWAY" you will see quite a few of the rotten ones get walked out or retired. In any given large corporation you will have bad ones. Key is to find the good ones. Ford is not the same place to work as it once was. Every company has its day. Fords has long since passed. No Idea where all this rush to EVs will get Ford? I hope for their sake they sell and make money for those good people still left behind.

This is American industry in a nutshell. Gone are the days of collectivism and building product people want and can afford. It's a rat race to nowhere. There is no comradery, not even so much as unifying mission state (I mean wtf is Ford+ anyways?). And it's all part of a much bigger plan that goes beyond Ford.

If you honestly think keeping people separate because of Covid was the only reason, you are sorely naive. Research what happened to captured U.S. Soldiers during the Korean War. The North Koreans would put them in solitary confinement for long periods of time. The communists would then offer them the option for human contact as long as they denounced US/western ideals as evil. They would then get to hang out with all the other captured soldiers. I am by no means judging the U.S. Soldiers, merely explaining the enemy's tactics. Fast forward to now, and look at the hand they are forcing for the illusion of return to normalcy. Same tactic as the communists, just wrapped up with a pandemic.

Not sure how you took it that way.

Again if you, despise your manager or supervisor or hate your co-workers, don't agree with the companies policy or processes, can't work with the computer hardware or software you are provided, or the programs and program managers you support maybe you are just a very unhappy person. My advice is the same. Look for another group or division or company or career to work.

I am east European but I will respond in kind, Vaya con Dios.

@1ycg+1dscLpGh Sounds like it is a good thing you are retiring based on your response that had nothing to do with the point of the original post/made no sense. Adios!

Actually, soon to be retired in 1 week. Just a GS with less then 15 years at Ford. I started out in work life back in 1975 never expecting a company to take care of me in my retirement and It work out well. I've always looked out for myself. When the company I worked for didn't fit my financial or career needs I found another job. Let me say leaving a job is not easy thing to do. Additionally, I have been laid off twice over that time frame. What is easy to do is to settle. Spare me the excuses why you have to stay at a job you don't like. I heard them all.

Over the last 45+ years of my career I have found that those who complain the most really don't have much to offer to their company professionally or personally. They tend to be the leaches who bleed the company for what ever they can and do their devious best to hang on for 20- 30 years in their perfected mediocrity.

My best to those who understand what I am saying, and to the rest, keep complaining because it is working so well for you.

@1lbf+1dscLpGh Obvi you didn’t read the entire post. They already said they were looking for another job. Nice try though.

You’re probably one of those brown noser managers everyone speaks of, hence the nasty comment. Typical.

No, just you and the other non Ford troll's on this site.

You have the freedom to look for another job like everyone else.

Sounds like a manager we have in CAD. They are everywhere. Only worried about their status and survival.

Despise, no.
Respect, absolutely not.

Four classes of management at Ford

  • politicking machines with a non-functioning moral compass. These will do anything to climb upwards, they leave a trail of destruction in their wake. They use and abuse everyone.
  • good ole boy club and friends and family club. These are typically clueless bungling managers who jump to a new position before their bungling bears fruit.
  • placeholders - these are keeping a seat warm while good ole boys club maneuvers behind the scenes to place a more desirable person (one who will do their bidding) into place.
  • competent manager. Rare birds who will be targeted for removal by their peers.

While the politicking machines are plentiful, occasionally we get to enjoy their fall.
One fall we joyously celebrated on Friday. This destructive force spent decades ruining reputations of others. He serially targeted the most competent persons and blamed them for everything that went bump in the night. He sabotaged their work and then publicly stepped in to save the day, by fixing the targets “mistakes”. It all caught up with him after the SRD when all the competent people were SRDed (who he coincidentally was both blaming for all his failings and taking credit for their work). Senior leadership was surprised that he couldn’t complete any projects after the SRD, as all the people he claimed were causing project delays and failures were gone. He was exposed as a con-artist. He was told it was in his best interest to take SRD.

Sadly it took close to 30 years for this con-artist to be exposed, despite a 30 yr trail of complaints to HR and management. Sadly he is only one of many bad actors.

Another d-mb post.
What next?
What does and LL6 (5,4,3) make?
Do LL6 (5,4,3) do any work?
Do FCG actually work?
Why am I the only one working in my group?
Ford people do nothing while us contract and purchase people do all the work.

@olj+1dscLpGh You just further proved the OPs point. If you are truly a manager, you have no business managing people with that ‘tude.

The longer I work at Ford, the less and less I respect anyone who is in “leadership”. Anyone that has gotten to that role has gotten to it for the wrong reasons i.e. brown nosing, diversity hire , etc. What you have to keep in mind is exactly that above, most of the people who have gotten their aren’t there because they are great with people and/or technically capable. It’s all a popularity contest and who you know. Don’t sweat it, keep working hard and keep looking elsewhere, at the end of the day it’s not worth it that any of these brown noser managers make our lives miserable.

Yep. Unfortunately there are many who have no business being in management, people that are promoted because of the brown noser mentality. Ford is one of the worst I have seen for this. I also thoroughly enjoy those who have gotten to management who never had to interview to get there, while the rest of us are constantly dr-g through the interview process
