Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Had a friend who told me that he is being redeployed to another group

He got the call from his management last Friday and told me about it yesterday. Curious if this a good thing (obviously it is a ton better to be redeployed then shown to the door).

Has anybody gone through this and their thoughts? We are not hearing anything from our upper management from our group which is a little concerning since nobody is talking about VSSP and whether involuntary separations will happen. The reason I am asking is because I am thinking about searching for open positions in other groups but don't want to cause any headaches to my managers but not knowing what the future holds has lead unwanted stress.

Also laterally moved in the 2019 SRD to make room for a favorite child so they could move into a better job. In addition to having no experience in the area, there was literally no work. Essentially the LL5 was doing the famed "need more resources" game so they dropped me there. They had to scrap together things so there would be something for me to do. After my first week, I began work to get out of there. The LL5 was so arrogant there was no opportunities available, they were shocked when I lateral'd out of there 90 days later.

I was redeployed to one of those "growing" areas as part of the SRD re-org in 2019. It was easily the worst job I'd held in more than 30 years at Ford. The day that I made a lateral move out of that job was one of the happiest days of my work life.

LL2 took VSSP, net gain - she had no technical skills, was a glorified cheerleader

Boy do you have that right, I call that one a big win!

Well you can expect another round of musical chairs come next year. What is happening now is only the fuel for the cuts coming next year. If you do decide to pursue another area inside the company try to pick an area you have a relationship with that management person. They know your work , your work ethic. Avoid the ones with a bad reputation. Those are the ones who use you as Fodder. Then again ask yourself what do you want out of Ford? Does Ford as a company fit your career aspirations? There is no doubt That the older commodities are going outside NA to Mexico and India.

OP, hold tight until you see the lay of the land. It should become clear mid-November

The LL2->LL6 shuffle has begun, now that all the LL who were advised to take the VSSP are exiting / have exited.
Next up are promotions and reorganization’s (some have already occurred)
Then the contractor releases and salaried involuntary separations.
Followed by a hiring spree.

Changes to our leadership

  • LL2 took VSSP, net gain - she had no technical skills, was a glorified cheerleader
  • Three LL4 took VSSP- one was a huge loss-he was the only LL5+ who knew what he was doing (probably why he got the invite), two were no loss
  • One LL5 took VSSP, no loss
  • Six LL6 took VSSP, no loss, one a huge gain(school yard bully and blowhard)

Announced changes to our leadership

  • LL5 musical chairs
  • promotions to LL6, all on friends and family plan

I know someone who was redeployed today. Doesn't have a job title or description, but was told the area is growing. :/ Doesn't sound like the best place to be right now.

We had folks redeployed to our team earlier this year. Its been a nightmare. They don't have the skill set required to do the work. It has resulted in more work and stress for those who know what they are doing. I would rather they were let go, because I'm tired of cleaning up their mess and trying to train them. It would be more efficient if I did their job outright.

By the end of this week, people who will be transferred will be told. New receiving areas will make contact and transfer plans. VSSP last day is 10/29. Estimating by the tempo they are following, I would absolutely bet Contract/ Agency releases likely to follow within a week or so. They are going to want this done and everyone settled in before the Thanksgiving holiday.

I know of at least one person who went through this in 2021. They went to a new position totally new to them (as their current job was dissolved) and they have been fine since the change. So far.
