Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Good managers not welcome

Being a good and competent manager who knows what he's doing and treats his employees with respect doesn't seem to be a plus at XOM. My former manager, one of the best I've ever had, was forced out recently. The replacement we got has zero understanding of the day to day, never provides us with any help or support but loves to take credit for our work once it's done. We lost an amazing asset to the company for a completely useless dolt and those above seem to think this was the right move. Are you kidding me?

Nobody actually really cares, bunch of boring nonsense. Display your true integrity, put you bA*8$ on the line and leave if it disturbs you so much…. Thought not, sheeple.

To those reading this thread now the original post had a lot more detail and was deleted by moderator due to racist remarks.

Does your supervisor schedule weekly update meetings and one on one meetings to micromanage you?

As long as your supervisor power walks and prints out a lot of papers they are all right in my book.

OP,
Hmmmm, does the new manager have less than 1 year of experience in his specific discipline and likes to post frivolous brown nosing stuff on LinkedIn everyday?

URC employees who were transferred to XTO have ruined us. URCians who came here over last many years are ridiculously ill mannered, untalented and disgusting. Sitting risk averse process ducks.

No one in their right mind at XOM would go into a supervisor's office to discuss the supervisor's performance given our evaluation system. Career ending move! And for on here suggesting it especially sips and managers you are either complete liars or totally lack self awareness. It takes a mature, self aware and humble human being to listen and respond to criticism ways that build trust and growth. We don't promote those kind of people into management positions at XOM.

Building useless dashboards to fool higher management in the name of technology

Of course, what else can you expect. Its evidence of how stupid and out dates the management is.

I don’t work the Permian but when some employee like the OP says that unfortunately “Good managers are not welcome” I can immediately relate because this is an obvious company-wide problem.
When I see how managers posting here mix threats of retribution with complaints about “negativity of some employees” I can tell exactly how viciously toxic those people are and how they have destroyed this company. You want “positive” employees after you threaten and PIP them relentlessly? What a bunch of sinister clowns !

The XTO right now is not the XzTO we purchased in 2010. That matters because Rex recognized XOM would never be able to compete in the uncon with our high costs, URC focused approach to uncon and our upwardly focused lower management so he bought a company that was done of those things and tried his best to protect and preserve that culture because he knew that was the real value. Fast forward 11 years and one CEO later and what is left is the same set of issues that ki---d USP and XOMs Uncon efforts. Good job folks!

I’d hear there were a bunch of racist rednecks out in the Permian and this post confirms it. Really sad to see there are people in the company who dismiss the talents of others just because they are different from their own. This is exactly why I told my supervisor I didn’t want to go out there. I am a white male but don’t want to work with bigots.

@vzf+1dl09z6Q How about some specific examples of how this supervisor is so terrible and what you’ve done to address? A lot of generalizations being stated but no specifics.

@iuc+1dl09z6Q I couldn’t agree more. I think we have a fine team in the Permian. There do seem to be some pockets of negativity. Unclear to me why these people stay if they hate it so much. Some people just like to be miserable and make everyone else miserable as well. I bet they were miserable during the bo-m times as well or even if they were here during the XTO days.

Based on details of your post I think I am in the same group as you and know who you are talking about. Pretty obvious who it is if you work in the team. First off not cool what you said about these people. Have you even tried talking to them if you need some sort of special accommodation in style? Second I can promise not all of us feel the same way you apparently do. In fact I am pretty disgusted and disappointed to see people in my group feel this way.

Judging by the time of original post of 3 am OP and first reply are same person. Suggest you get some professional help. If this is what you are thinking about at 3 am you need to make some changes.

What metric you using as basis? Earnings will be very good this next quarter I expect.

Seeing a coworker attempt to leave with a 2 week notice yesterday and listening to what his manager told him was an eye opening experience. It may not be Monday but a lot of us will be leaving soon. The lack of compassion and LTA management has crippled this company from what I see in the short time I have been here. It was nauseating. I left work thinking why did I ever accept this job. The reality is that it wasn’t like this when I hired on. I have had the group lead put in another position, new managers, pips and now I have no support from the new gl nor do I have support from my manager. It’s really upsetting because we were all happy and doing well for about a year and then all of this. Eye opening is all I can say.

Same thing happened at our manufacturing site yesterday. This scenario is becoming all too common. As a bystander knowing what actually happened vs what management is touting all the way to the Division manager is 2 totally different renditions. This place is jacked up and a lot more people will be leaving but hey they wanted head count cut and it’s happening. The department head was still running around justifying numbers and was like this isn’t where we wanted to apply pressure. What an azz ho-e. He-l isn’t hot enough for these azz clowns. I hope the new DM sees through these id--ts. Only time will tell but for me it’s too late. I’ve made my mind up. I’m gone.

I did find it amusing that the first people that transferred to XTO following the merger (when XTO was still XTO) did not want to go back to Exxon.

Both RTD and CSR are places will of incompetents. I wouldn’t hire them to flip burgers in a fast food restaurant as none of them is trustworthy. Despicable human beings

OP were you hired by XTO or XOM? Sounds like you would be happier at a smaller independent. Most all of the XTO people are gone now. You work for a big company now. It is no longer XTO.

Cracks me up when people who hired into XOM transfer to XTO and then complain about how XTO is too ExxonMobil like. As if they even know what XTO was like.

This is what we get when the company has developed a laser focus on lowering costs. To he-l with any collateral fallout, it seems like they are thinking that’ll be cleaned up later.

But, like OP states, we are left with the incompetent and inexperienced. Good Luck @XOM!

The staffing model has to change:
1- transparency is needed
2- staffing should be experienced/ skill dependent based
3- High Potential Identification system is antiquated and obsolete, stop staffing based on a broken model
4- Transparency (again) post open positions - no need for cloak and dagger BS.
